Race Video

Posted at 1:08 pm under Uncategorized

Some newer race video- shot Jan 23, 2013. I feel OK about both of these races. My mid season times are right where they were during my best (pre ATR) season. The question remains: with a late season race taper (for the Masters Sprint World Championships) will the speed find me like it did last time? I’m almost exactly 1second per lap slower than my target right now (at all distances).

Pretty tough to see in the tiny frame- click the “youtube” button on the lower right to watch it in a larger, better resolution format.

Good for you man. I’m don’t know much about speed skating performance or technique, but you look like you are doing quite well and your blog still inspires me to keep at throughout the recovery process. Good luck with your training. :)

Thanks Kevin- things are going much better this season. Went to Masters Nationals and did OK (a 2nd, two 3rds, and a 4th in my age group)- but I was sick that whole weekend and was a little disappointed with the results (could have been 1 place better at every distance I think).

The real takeaway is that I’m approaching my all time best performance. As I said above, my speed is exactly where it was - mid season - during my best year ever (the year before my ATR). I’ve yet to put down a really solid race, and so I know there is still margin to tap. And, with a late season race taper (and dropping a few pounds), I hope to find that last bit of speed eluding me. In other words: I think I’m… finally… fully recovered, at least in terms of skating performance, from the ATR. And it only took ~18 months :-)
