1 Year: Scar Ripped Open

Posted at 9:37 pm under Uncategorized

Well, sort of :-)

If I did that right, you can click on the image for a big version. Still a few minor touch-ups to go.

I think the genesis of this idea happened way back in week 1: Housebound, stuck on the couch, wondering what was under that big surgical cast. What the heck, my days as an ankle model were probably over anyways… or who knows, maybe they’re just starting. It’s been in the works for months now.

Are any of you sensitive around your scar area. Well, um… yeah…

I’ll always have something to remind me of this long journey.

OMG! That tattoo rocks. I took me a sec to realize what it was. But that is just sweet. Bionic AT. I am too much of a wuss to do something like that, but at is definitely one of the coolest tats I have seen. Great conversation starter.

    Thanks Crutches!

I was surprised by how much this affected my scar, in a good way. It’s a lot flatter, and less pronounced, compared to the section of scar that isn’t covered. Once healed, the pins-n-needles, numbness, and general weirdness around the injury seemed better too. I did a little research, and discovered that “skin needling” (basically, tattooing without ink) is a not too uncommon scar treatment, used by some plastic surgeons. Their patients usually get a more sophisticated anaesthetic than tequila though. :-)

I must confess I was also rather alarmed when I saw the title. Glad it wasn’t really “ripped”. Very unique tattoo!

    Awesome tattoo!!!

I’ve been cruising around looking for something to do across the top of my foot and wrapped around my ankle .. I’m aiming for my 40th birthday .. it’ll be 1 year since injury at that point :)

You’re a wild one, Ryanb! The most interesting thing for me, however, is your terrific dorsiflexion, haha! You can’t even see your scar anymore.

That tat is awesome. I might get it because my foot actually ripped open on my rerupture. What did is cost and where did you go? Wife hates the idea of a Tattoo so i might have to do it!

This is my 2nd tattoo- the first was my wedding ring. Wife couldn’t really complain about that one…

However, I am - apparently - an idiot. In several sources, I’ve read that the two most painful places to get a tattoo are your fingers and the ankle.

Saw your post today and clicked on to find out how your scar ripped at one year out. Glad to see that is not the case. Cool tat. It looks painful.

Whoa, congrats! I read your blog in chronological order, and am happy your aggressive PT didn’t have any negative consequences.
