5 weeks and walking

62 years old 5 weeks post op and thanks to a great OS and PT I was walking today no boot! no crutches! no pain! no stiffness. On my Turbo trainer for 10 mins also so starting to build muscle. Attention is now turning to why it happened, weaknesses and inbalance due to old injuries and back problems. PT wants to sort this out to ensure no problems in the future. Very happy today.

On my bike

4 weeks and three days post op, saw my physio this morning, very pleased with progress standing evenly on two feet, walking without the boot and one crutch slowly under supervision. Went on the exercise bike and felt great, nice to get the thigh and calf muscles working again. He wants me on one crutch from now on. explained that walking with the feet duck style is the best protection against and accident and re-rupture as this pose makes it impossible if walking slowly. I am going to buy a cycle turbo trainer - a static bike stand to put my road bike on and exercise in the house. He also altered the angle of the boot again today so that it gives me more flexibility. All together a very positive session.

4 weeks going great

Just passed my 4 weeks stage saw my PT who I visit twice a week. Can FWB standing with him! still in boot! he recommends 20 mins a day walking then plenty of RICE. He has asked me to bring my trainers Saturday I think we are going on a fixed cycle machine. Really pleased with progress have a target of another 6 weeks to go on vacation in shoes.

Week 4 setback

It’s week four from op tomorrow. I have been doing a fair amount of PWB walking and less elevation rest. Yesterday swollen and purple ankle and some pain same in the night, worried I have had some kind of setback or done some damage or is this normal?

Week 3 post op, second PT visit this week? PT happy with progress more stretching, pushed down on the scales again and was surprised the weight I could pushed had increased (doubled) to 80 lbs.  progressed to full weight bearing with supervision and with my feet splayed out like a duck. This was a little painful, lots of other stretching and massage. Had a lot of pain an hour later and took some painkillers, back home and still feel pretty sore but I guess that’s to be expected. Two more sessions next which is week four, PT said I should progress to an exercise bike next week.

Back again for more physio

Week 3, Back to my PT tomorrow! second time this week. Pleased with progress have been doing a lot of PWB this week! got my knew crutches today! been doing hot cold ankle baths! stretching! pushing down to 50lbs on the scales, massage my own ankle and wound,  and flexing in the boot now it has a range of movement.  No pain feeling good, expect to be pushed a little further tomorrow. So pleased I can PWB it makes life a lot easier.

3 weeks post op

Went for physio today 3 weeks post op. Was really pleased with my progress. PT manipulated my foot, got me to measure my strength by pushing down on a set of scales, I measured 45lbs of pressure. Adjusted the angle of my boot and had me walk partial weight bearing. Really pleased with progress at 3 weeks
Got home and now pretty sore I guess that is to be expected.
