I’ve been in the boot for about 10 days now and things are slowly improving. I still get heel pain but it takes longer to begin than it did when I first started FWB. Also I don’t get the blood rush to my foot when it is not elevated nearly as much as I did just a short time ago. I can pretty much walk around most of the day without much of a problem as long as I periodically rest to relieve the pressure on my heel. At the end of the day I remove my boot and work on my ROM. The swelling is not too bad but it is definitely present. All in all I am satisfied with my progress at this point. My neighbor (who had surgery 3 days before me but on the opposite side) and I went down to the tennis and pickleball courts today to watch all the people having fun and to remind me what I am working to get back to. When I first injured myself, I felt that I would never chance this happening again but as time goes on, I can’t imagine giving it up.
Slowly but surely

Slowly but surely seems a very apt title.I sympathise with the heel pain. I began to feel it when my foot went to flats in the boot and still have it now that I’m in two shoes. It sounds like you are making steady progress though, which is great. Things will soon start to speed up in the boot. Just keep looking forward and thinking of Disney. I did Euro Disney this summer in my boot and a wheel chair, I think you’ll be ready. Take care and keep us posted.

Sounds good! And, nice to have a neighbor at the same stage to share with and support each other. (What are the odds?) As long as you’re moving forward, slow is OK. -David

Hi I had a 60% tear in my already tendonitis achilles on July 5th andthe surgeons at HSS in nyc said that my age 61 and risks made them decide on a conservative heal cycle but I was never quite sure if this would give me the strength I would like. Its going on 12 weeks now and outside Im still in a boot and getting therapy
thanks
Mike

Michael, start a blog! Conservative means different things, and some are good, some bad. Going non-op works great, with no strength deficit compared to surgery in the best studies and very low rerupture rates. But going slow is bad and especially harmful non-op. Uninformed people think it’s safer, opposite is true.
