Kinesio Tape where have you been

13 weeks post op and started a rigorous PT program a few weeks ago leaving me very stiff and sore, particularly in the ankle joint and incision area. After hearing some good feedback and reading on good information, I bought some kinesio tape this weekend and what a difference it has made. I no longer wake up stiff and sore and the foot is definitely more tolerable throughout the day and the swelling has decreased. My range or motion is 99.9 percent as my good foot and the walking also feels better. Definitely something I will continue to use on a regular basis.

  1. Hmmm, interesting. I may have to try some of that. I’m 4 months post-op and I still get pain in and around the area below the ankle bones. My daughter is an OT. I will have to see if she can hook me up.

    Thanks for the information!

    Happy Healing!

  2. Could you please tell me where you actually placed the Kinesio tape? Did you place it vertically along the achilles tendon or horizontally around the ankle?
Believe it or not, I am 4 years post op achilles tendon repair with a tendon transfer from my big toe, but still occasionally have swelling and twinges of pain. Hoping the tape will help.
    Thanks!

  3. Susan, I just had kinesio tape applied to my healing (10 weeks post-op) Achilles tendon yesterday at my PT appt. It was applied vertically starting just beneath my heel and then extends up to my calf muscle. I think there are myriad ways to apply the kinesio tape depending upon your particular situation. However, if you want to see a video, type “kinesio tape achilles” into Google and you’ll be presented with a number of different YouTube videos to watch an actual application. -David

  4. david is right in saying there are a lot of different ways to do it. When they taped me, they placed 2 strips. One was vertical on the outside of my foot, running from the bottom of my foot up over my ankle bone to around where the achilles is and another the same way on the inside.
