About
On Sunday 7th August 2011, I completely ruptured my achilles tendon while playing football during a 2 week holiday in Fuerteventura. I’m 35 and have always been active in many sports, football being my main sport. Having played football competitively for 26 years relatively injury free, then retiring from the game to start coaching last year it’s frustrating to pick up a serious injury like this. Although I don’t play football competitively now I still play 5-a-side and enjoy lots of other sports like mountain biking, racket sports and golf. My goal is get back to playing all these sports next year.

Pringles. Welcome to the ‘club’ and I mean that in a positive way. It’s not a ‘club’ I ever thought for a minute I would belong to as even sliding past my 50th birthday I still thought I was invincible. I played for 30+ years in very competitive field hockey - no injuries apart from minor breaks. A casual game of indoor soccer and ‘welcome to the club’.
Although I would rather not be a member of this unfortunate ‘club’ what I have found is how common a lot of our experiences are, how warm the support is from fellow sufferers world-wide, and what an invaluable guide the achilles blog is in the recovery process. Good to hear you’re a fellow keen mountain biker from the UK. My focus remains a return to the trails after Christmas. Good luck in your recovery.
