YES! Back to Basketball

Yesterday, 7 months and 7 days after my surgery, I returned to the scene of the crime, back to basketball. I played for a shorter period of time and not as intensely, and I came out of it uninjured. Definitely a little rusty. This morning I just have the usual soreness, not anything in particular in the foot/leg except for a tiny amount of heel pain that passed once my blood started circulating. I did not do anything special after playing, just hit the showers as usual and headed home.

  1. How long was it after surgery until you were able to shoot around on the court? I’m at 22 weeks and still have tons of scar tissue and limited movement.

  2. I was given the okay to start running at about the 20-21 week mark, gradually increased it so long as there was no pain. I only get a very slight heel pain now on the outside of the heel. I think the PT helped a lot in getting the leg back in shape. I would say that I started shooting and making some side and pivot moves at about the 22 week mark. But I did it gradually and slowly. PT said dont go all out with hoops till Jan. or Feb. and I am just starting to ease into it competitively now, a little shorter and not quite giving 100%. I still have a sensitive spot on part of the scar. If you havent done PT, try to go to one, it will help. Those guys know the exercises you need.
