All the hard yards are worth it in the end!
Uncategorized April 12th, 2013It has been a while since I have reported on this site but that is mainly due to not having the time to sit around and dwell on my injury. It has been close to six months since my total rupture and surgical repair and over this time there has been alot of hard yards with the physio etc.
Two to three times a week physio treatments for the past four months have resulted in my recovery going from strength to strength and Im looking forward to my next specialist visit in two weeks to hopefully hear his final sign-off. I am back running and doing all the normal things in life (especially with two kids to keep you on your toes), sometimes I forget that I had such major surgery. Mentally I think I am ready to return to volleyball but I will leave that final decision to those who know best.
All I can say to those out there that are just starting out on their recovery, don’t give up. As each days goes by things will start to get better and better and before you know it you will be where I am asking yourself ‘where has the last six months gone’.

Thank you so much for your post! Support groups can be negative at times..hey people need to vent and I can understand that. But the positive is what we need to dwell on. I’m a personal trainer and my complete repture 5 weeks ago has thrown a curve in my life and career. But as a trainer and a guy that enjoys a good challenge, that’s what I see this is. It will develop character, perseverance and patience. I hope to set an example to others that this won’t stop me, knock me down very long. I’m back in the gym working out a little and back to training my clients…a few at least. I had some leave thinking I wouldn’t be back in the gym for a few months because of this injury. I even applied to physical therapy school during my 3 week down time after surgery. Thanks again for your post and that life can return to normal quickly…6 months is a great recovery time..Good Job!!

Hey Cody and Pfryan,
Thanks for the post…..unfortunately I was having a negative day and the positive notes were great to read. I was a pretty avid gym rat before this roller coaster ride started….so I know what kind of curve that threw you Cody. But it is encouraging to know that you are back in the gym some after 5 weeks. I am just 2 weeks and 2 days post-op and feel like a caged tiger. But I’ve agreed to give a motivational speech at a weight loss program our community fitness center sponsors…and it’s as much a motivational speech for me as it is for the people thinking about joining the group….no matter what curve ball life throws at us we have to keep on swinging…and use the tools we’ve learned in losing weight, and getting fit & healthy even when we’re laid up. I’m doing some upper body work here at the house but
I can’t wait to get back to the gym and do whatever the doc allows me to do. My neighbor just told me you have to look at this lengthy recovery like the old question…
how do you eat an elephant….one bit at a time….you can’t look at the whole elephant!

well that should have said one ‘bite’ at a time!
