Newly Injured!

Well, I guess I really am closer to 30 than 20.  I can’t even lift big rocks and shovel dirt all day without my back going out.  I suppose the good news is that my Achilles isn’t the part of my body that hurts the most anymore.  2 days ago I decided that I was going to go out and help build a trail on our local mountain.  4 hours of hauling 200lb rocks and shoveling dirt (wearing my boot of course), and what happens?  I strain my back.  My lower back muscles feel hard as a rock, and twice the size the’re supposed to be.  I was noticing over the last few weeks that my back was starting to hurt.  I think it may have to do with the muscle imbalance caused by one leg being longer than the other due to my boot.

So here I am, NOT going to whistler for some downhill biking, but it’s my back holding me back, not my Achilles.  Getting old is a drag, and I’m only 26!  Sheesh, and it’s only going to get worse.

peterh - you are complaining about being 26?? hahah! common, the back is a minor set back. Once you’ve recovered from it, you should be having the time of your life! You should be in your prime at 26 - 32! :)

Well, I’m not really complaining about being 26, just that I’m not 22 any more! Yeah, I know I’ve got a long way to degenerate from here still, but I guess that means I’m just getting started on my long journey towards geriatrics.

But mostly I’m just feeling like I’m getting the types of injuries that older people get when I’m still young.

hey pete…I,ve just had my first ever serious injury…a ruptured achilles tendon. It was damaged by an escalator at New York Airport which tried to eat my ankle, and no witnesses so no compensation.
    I’m not complaining…but…
this is not fair…ruptured tendons should be kept for daft kids who carry 200lb rocks, not recycled teenagers like me. I was an international athlete for may years, and still do athletics and hunting, and I can’t wait to get back on the trail..but take it easy!
    I’m 63

    lol…cheers
