Just had my 6 weeks post op appointment. Doctor said everything looked good so far. I took one more wedge out of my boot. So now I am down to one. In 3 more days I will take the last wedge out. Then within a week after that, I am told to move to a shoe with a couple heel inserts. I was also told to start physical therepy within a week or two. He said I can go 1-3 times per week. Any advice on the frequency of this?
As for my repaired leg, it feels pretty good. I’ve had a minimal amount of pain thus far. My “good leg” however is where I’m feeling it more. Now that I’ve been overcompesated on it for 6 weeks, my lower leg is sore and gradually gets worse throughout each day; better in the morning, worse by night. I feel some minor pain specificallly in my good tendon. This is scary with all the statistics on people who have ruptured one tendon. My doctor said to take it easy and hopefully this goes away when I start walking normal. Also to take it reallly easy before I’d do anything really physical if I am feeling pain; with all the micro tears in it….. I think I will talk with the therapist to see what I can do for not only the bad leg, but the good one as well.
Did anyone else out there have a similar experience with their good leg? How did it turn out?

Well, I am continuing my transition from PWB to FWB. My goal was to completely lose the crutches by 6 weeks post op. I’m not so sure that I am gong to hit that goal though. I can move around with one crutch and I have taken baby steps briefly. I am not feeling much pain in my tendon, but my ankle feels like it is sprainied. When I put full weight on my leg, my ankle and heel feel so much pressure and pain. I am wondering if it is the angle that my foot is still at. I am hoping that this goes away when I remove the next wedge. Did anyone else have this problem?
Regardless, I am still making little improvements and I feel like I am able to do a bit more each day. My next appontment is in a week and I look forward to what ever the next step will be. Can’t believe it’s been 5 weeks already.

I just had my 4 week post op appointment with my doctor. I am continuing to hit new milestones. One week ago, I was instructed to remove the first wedge out of my boot. Today, they removed the second wedge. I was also told that over the next 2 weeks, I should transition from PWB to FWB. I honestly didn’t think that I would lose the crutches that soon, but I am going to follow the doctor’s instructions every step of the way. I am scared as I continue to do more and more with my leg. I can’t help but worry about a re-rupture. I was also told that after a month (from surgery), we are still relying heavily on the sutures. He said that they are very strong and would hold up to my whole weight though.
I was also told that in two weeks, we would look at moving into a show with a heal insert. This also seems quick. I didn’t think I would be going bootless in 6 weeks!
My leg has suffered from severe atrophy. When I am looking from the top, my leg looks like it is all bone. But all in all, he said everything looked good and I am on schedule. It’s been a long month, but I feel that I have come a long ways already.

It has been 19 days since my surgery. My incision area and tendon itself does not hurt. What is bothering me more is the fact that other parts of my leg and my left leg are sore from all of the awkward positions I am trying to keep my leg in. My left hamstring is getting pretty sore from over compensating the weight on that leg.
I returned to work this past Tuesday as I have a desk job that doen’t require constant movement. I think this was a mistake and it is more uncomfortable sitting there all day than I had anticipated. Over the next week I am taking some half days to help transition back in.
In 3 days, my doctor instructed me to remove the first wedge out of my boot. I am very nervous about this as I don’t want to stretch my tendon to much. At this point I only have an inch (at most) for range of movement in my foot. I am very worried about rerupturing my tendon. From what I hear, the tendon is not very strong at all 3 week post op.

This is my first post. Here is a quick recap of my first 19 days.
May 12th - I ruptured my achilles tendon (complete tear) playing basketball.
May 16th - had my surgery to repair my tendon.
Week 1 post op - This was the worst week. I had kept my leg elevated above my heart non-stop besides going to the bathroom. When my foot was down I felt major throbbing.
Week 2 - my leg felt better and I was converted into the boot. It is clunky and awkward to wear. My leg is sore from trying to hold it in certain positions all the time.
