On crutches
Following surgery I’m now in a cast for 2 weeks. After that I’ve been told I’m going to go into the walking boot for 6 weeks. I hate being on crutches!!! I literally can’t do anything or go anywhere! I was on crutches for 2 weeks prior to surgery, and now i’m almost a week post-op so I’ve been 3 weeks now. I want to be able to walk! A week to go until I hopefully get the boot and I can’t wait.
How long does it take to be able to walk without crutches?

Hey
I was in a cast 3 weeks after the op and then put in a boot. I started pwb at wk 4 and was fwb at 5.5 weeks walking without crutches. I can manage walking for around 20mins now without crutches.
Hang in there!!! This site is awesome for advice and guidence. It’s really important to keep you your foot elevated in the 1st 2 wks. I didn’t move much either as I didn’t want to risk a fall.

Hi Nevergiveup, I was NWB for 5.5 weeks and it’s a long haul, especially if you have to go to work. I was lucky and was able to work from home most of the time. I did rent a turning leg caddy from the orthopedic clinic which was a huge benefit. If you get one, just be careful as some have fallen and gotten hurt with it. I used it mainly in he kitchen to get around and took it on trips to the office as it was a life saver in getting around the long hallways while still being able to carry stuff in my hands vs. on crutches not being able to carry anything. It does not seem so while you’re in the middle of it, but progress does come and soon you will be ditching the crutches. Hang in there!

its all about taking it one day at a time. Crutches are frusterating and they suck but i still have to use them once in a while and I am 7 weeks post op. hang in there PWB will be here before you know it. (BTW i went PWB and mostly FWB at 4-6 weeks)
