I had surgery on the same day as you 12/2//2008, I also tore my right Achilles Tendon playing basketball but I did mine on 11/26/08. Sorry to hear that you had to spend so much time in the hospital , I got to the hospital at 2:30pm and they released me at 8:00 that night. The pain was pretty intense that first night after the nerve block on the knee wore off . I was in a cast until Friday January 2nd my foot was in the neutral position in the cast, my Ortho told me to go FWB when the cast came off so I have been easing into it walking only small distances.
Glad to hear you are FWB so soon kieran. I would be pretty cautious going directly to FWB from your first cast. I am surprised that you were in neutral 90 degree position from day 1. I know my very conservative surgeon wants me to be in the 45 degree foot pointing down position for quite a long time so the tendon can heal without being stretched. Hopefully on 1/12/09 I can at least get into neutral position for my next cast or boot. Be careful and hope your recovery continues to go well.
