BACK TO SQUARE ONE!!!!!!
well by now id should have been 9 months into recovery but
have had some major setbacks …. after getting to ” shoes last sept and going back to work , i was enjoying a day with my nephew who was 12 months old , i was playing on the floor with him then went to pick him up and the worst pain ever (again) shot up my heel … back down to a&e and a hour later confirmation id re-ruptured my heel ! i was devestated to say the least …… iwas put back in a camboot and told i could walk on it ( which was wrongly diagnosed)and told to return in 4 wks …….in october i returned and said i could go back to 2 shoes but icould only limp and my heel was so sore …… i went back to my consultant in december who by now took a little longer with me including x rays and a scan only to be told my tendon looked liked a “dogs dinner” !!!!!!!!! all mashed and stringy , he said i should not have been allowed to leave a& e that september bearing any weight !!!!!!!! so after a 3 month wait and one cancelation i am having my second operation on wednesday which involves removing the tendon from my big toe and attaching to what s left of my achilles heel ….ive been told the heeling process is alot longer this time with 6 weeks in plaster then another 12 in a camboot .. but whats 18 week s when ive been injured since last june …………

Oh no Nerys, that is a disaster. Life is so unfair at times. You really must be devastated. If you remember I was in plaster for 10 weeks, I do think the longer you are in plaster the more time you have to heal. Looks like another summer will pass you by again.
We are going to Tenby again in June, maybe by then you may be having a trip or so to the coast. Last year when we were there I was in a wheelchair, this year will be walking but still very slowly.
I thought everything was going smoothly for you as you had not been posting recently, how wrong I was.
I am sure you will have the strength of character to get through this as you know most of the routine by now. So so sorry….

Nerys: I really feel for you. I had my right leg reconstructed in July and my left one done in January. It is really a challenge to stay positive when you have been caged for that long. I felt like I had just started to get up and get some freedom back and then I went down again. My poor family.
Hang in there!! WE WILL HEAL!
There seems to be an abundance of stories of people getting misdiagnosed by the NHS. Is there any recourse? I have 4 other friends who are paying for a misdiagnosis by them.

Hi again Nerys and Smish,
Way back this time last year the NHS told me I had ruptured my achilles but said I just needed to ice it for 2 weeks then use heat treatment for 2 weeks, how wrong can they get… I eventually went private and paid, thank goodness. But, not all NHS sectors get it wrong, we just have to hope that eventually they will all get it right. Good luck ladies.
PS Smish, got some pictures to send you, will email them later tonight, that should keep you guessing.
Keep your chin up Nerys!

Nerys,
I really feel for you. I know how hard this is the first time and can’t imagine how bad it’ll be the second time around. Take solice in the fact that we’re all still here for support when you need it.
Hopefully they’ll do it right this time.
Take care,
Jon

Nerys,
I am so, so sorry to hear about your re-injury. I have been through it myself. I cut my tendon with glass in an accident and it ruptured 7 weeks later. I surely hope you have family that will help. It is devastating to hear of such a setback. But you will get better. I have discovered that this is a life changing injury but not a life threatening one. I will keep you in my prayers. - Catherine

See you in Tenby in June, that will be great. You will deserve a holiday and by October you should be feeling great. I might add when we were in Tenby last year it was a lot more wheelchair friendly, will show you the best spots.
We are going on a Cruise round the Med on 7 April, my nephew and his wife were supposed to go with my 2 nieces but his wife has had a major operation so we are taking their place, so its panic stations here as I don’t have a passport! We have an appointment at the Passport Office in Liverpool on Wednesday to see if I can get one on the day. Just been to have my picture taken, the other 2 pictures will do for my over 60 free bus pass which I will get in August, now that is exciting….
Be careful, see you in June
