How do i get rid of this rash?
December 5, 2009
2 weeks post-op in noticed a few small red spots. Didnt really look like much. Then, in the last two weeks it started getting worse. I developed red rash that spread all over my ankle and now is moving up above my knee. It is itching and the leg feels warmer where there is rash.
I tried Hydrocortisone which first seamed to reduce the redness and itching, but is not working any more.
I wonder if anyone else had the same thing and have any suggestions on what I can do.

Could it be a heat rash? Are you taking any meds? I got a horrible rash on my back and shoulders, which the doctor told me was just from laying on my back and shoulders and shifting a lot- so it was from the friction. Not that that is what is going on with you- but what did work for me was rubbing the area with a cotton pad soaked in witch hazel. The witch hazel helped a lot.

maryk,
I am not taking any meds, just the vitamines. I was thinking about some allergic reaction, but then it would not be isolated ti just the injured leg. Unless it is the ACE wrap that I am allergic to. I do not know if this is even possible.
Let me try the witch hazel. Thanks!

It could be the wrap — maybe you are allergic to latex or whatever is in there to make it stretchy.
Does it seem to get worse when you are warm?
I had a rash a couple of years ago — one glance and the doctor said “contact dermatitis”; I had come in contact with something that my skin did not like. She recommended taking Zyrtec, keeping the skin moisturized, and keeping the area cool.

shortseason,
I changed the wrap to a non-latex one today and kept my leg in the open air for a bit as well. I also used the mosturising lotion (Cetaphil). I am relactant to take antihistomins though at this point. The rash seams to be fading a bit, so I will stay the course and see what happends.
Thank you for your advice,
Marina
