4 weeks post op - rediculous

December 3, 2009

2 weeks ago I lost my balance and landed on the big toe of my injured foot. 5 days later, when I finally saw the Dr he wanted to wait 10 days for the swelling to go down.

So, there I was today, 4 weeks post op, egerly awaiting the verdict. Surgery? MRI? Cast? Turns out none of these. The Dr shows up, looks at my ankle, and asks how many weeks post-op was I. “3 weeks?” “No, 4 weeks” I reply. Dr looks very happy and announces that I am to start PT.

I remind him that I fell and that we were waiting… He reiterates that it is time to start PT and begins wrapping my ankle with the ACE wrap. I ask about the boot. What boot? Dr is surprised. “You need first to get your foot to a 90 degree angle” he says. I realize that this is not even worse the argument. I insist on getting prescription for an MRI and leave.

As soon as I get home, I realize that the Rx is for the WRONG ankle. I call the office and ask them to correct the prescription. No appologies, but they agree. Later I call the radiology place and find out that te second prescription is incomplete. At this point, 5:40 in the afternoon, the Dr office is closed.

What a day. At least I know that I am done with this doctor. The issue is finding a better one now.

Sounds like you should get your MRI and then get a new doctor! So sorry you are having to go through this on top of everything else.

I’ll work on it over the weekend. Where in NJ (or what major city are you closest to)?

I am in Warren, NJ. It is a really small town on the border of Central and Northern NJ, I am pretty close to Summit, Morristown, Millburn.

    Thanks a lot!

I haven’t heard anything definitive back yet, but I would imaging that if you could put up with the travel time, going to one of the major university/teaching centers in either NYC (or maybe Princeton?) would be more helpful than this doc that you’ve been dealing with. Now, the universities can be a bit impersonal and you will probably initially be seen by residents or medical students, but, if you’ve re-ruptured, then I would hope that you can get the best care possible at one of those centers. Princeton’s physician finder number is: 1.888.PHCS4YOU. Calling that # and explaining your situation might be a good place to start. Sorry I don’t have anything more specific. Good luck, Ron

Thank you so much!!! I am actually only about 1 hour away from Princeton and it is a pretty stright forward road to get there. I will try calling them tomorrow to see if they would take me.

I called a good orthopedic practice in NJ and they told me that their doctors would not see me until 90 days post surgery. Apparently for the first 90 days I am theoretically under the care of the doctor who performed my surgery. I was told that for liability reasons they would not be able to take me until then.

I am not sure now if I will be able to move to another doctor, but I will try.

    Thank you very much again,
