9.5 weeks, no surgery - no wedges!

Published by mtbrider at 8:13 pm under Uncategorized

Yeah, went back to the hospital today and was told to remove my final moon boot wedge and start physio. That was cool news but expected as things have been feeling pretty good recently. Have been wearing a compression sock 24/7 since I got the moon boot. Been stretching/moving the ankle twice daily which feels good too. Keeping the boot on in bed (just in case) but taking it off for showering. Will have a moon boot-free sleep tonight though for the first time. Sure I will be sweet now for that…..yeah? Yeah?

Got a teaser form the nurse when I arrived today asking if I brought my other shoe - easy tiger…. I still have a wedge. Then the doc saw me and said no more wedges, then 2 shoes in 2 weeks! That is a cool thought but it will be interesting to see if I feel lost/insecure/vulnerable without the boot. I imagine I will.

Looking forward to starting PT, especially getting on the exercycle soon.

So that is the latest. Take it easy all.

    Hi

Interesting to read your update as it’s virtually identical to my own experience. No surgery, aircast boot, no wedges since Monday, and now 50 days post ATR. I have also had the past 3 nights without wearing the boot in bed. Heaven for me but not my partner as she hopes I get an ATR of my nose to stop my snoring!

My forecast no boot FWB date is 22nd August and I’m hoping all goes well until that date. Unfortunately, the injury curtailed all my mountain bike plans in the UK over the summer and likely the next 3 or 4 months. Planning a repeat of our 200 mile Coast-to-Coast mountain bike epic in the UK next July. That is my focus to get fit again although I have the same uncertainty about the strength of the achilles in the future.

I hope your recovery continues to go well

Mtbrider, if you DON’T feel lost/insecure/vulnerable without the boot, you probably have a screw loose! Good thing, too, because you will be insecure & vulnerable, so it’s best to feel that way.

Nev, once your ATR heels, you shouldn’t have to worry about the strength of that AT at all. Worries about the other one are probably useless, but are unfortunately not irrational.

I can’t wait to be out of my boot. My surgery was July 1 and I was starting to pick up dice with my toes when my incision opened up. Now I have to wait for the infection to heal before I can start rehab. That won’t be until at least Sept 1 now. I find myself getting impatient. Good luck getting out of your boot.

Deano, great to hear the flight sock helped.
