Day 2 post op - Can’t wiggle my toes
Posted on June 18th, 2014 by mozer
Overnight wasn’t too bad, the pain meds make me dream silly stuff, I kept to 4 hours but backed off to one pill. Yesterday after getting home from the hospital I could wiggle my toes, except the big one. Today…nothing, I can’t get one iota of movement out of them, my leg feels heavier and like it’s more swollen today, could this be why I can’t move my toes? My nerve blocks still have not worn completely off but that shouldn’t be it, any ideas?

In addition to getting advice from those looking in (elevation, icing, and so on that you will have been advised by the hospital), with your symptoms you should be talking to your OS or their staff. If your vehicle played up after a repair, you’d be back on to the shop as well as blogging wouldn’t you? And this is just a little more important isn’t it?
Don’t worry. I went through the same thing, once the nerve block wears off completely and some of the swelling goes down you will be able to wiggle your toes. I had the same concern that something was wrong.
Just as atrbuff has said, if you are worried then you should get an expert to have a look. You can always see your own GP and I would encourage this. There are things that can only be physically checked which we cannot do. Losing movement in your toes is listed as a warning on this page (add the www) orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00095. There are others as well such as colour and temperature of your toes that give indications (not listed on this site though). It is normal to have swelling but it is better to be safe.
It sounds odd that you could move your toes on day one but not now. Is the cast too tight? I would get someone to have a look.
