36 Hours till the Cast Comes Off!

Ok, so the last week has been very hard…watching the left leg waste away, not being able to stand in the shower…etc etc.  You all know what I’m talking about.  But I’m very close to getting the cast off and the boot on with PWB.  I feel like a 7 year old waiting for Christmas morning.  Very little pain these days, on occasional twing or light burning sensation…I assume it’s normal.  I’ve been working at my desk for two weeks - leg sometimes raised, sometimes not…doesn’t seem to make much difference except the foot swells a lot if it’s down for more than 15 minutes or so.

I’d be very interested to know if any has purchased the Ankle Inferno device to warm up the ankle to get the blood flow going?  I hope you are all doing well……

Ouch, I’m hurt….

As a triathlete and fairly fit guy, I didn’t think much of going to play basketball with the guys.  About half way through the game I realized I had made a critical error in judgement.  Heard a lot pop, almost like a light gunshot, and wondered why someone would throw something at me while I was running down court.  Turns out my Achilles had ruptured….I knew it right away but didn’t know what the journey ahead would be like.

The injury occured late Tuesday night (7/14)…saw the doctor mid day Thursday (7/16) had surgery the next day.

Surgery went fine….was on my back from Fri to Monday…then started to get up more often.  Was in a splint for two weeks and now in a cast until August 14th.    I’m surprised how hard it’s been mentally.  Not being able to do much for yourself….not easy for a guy that likes to be very independent.  And I miss little things - being able to easily go into my kids rooms at night to give them a kiss (they are 7 and 10).

More to come….
