4 Weeks Post Op
I had my 4 week post-op visit on Friday, April 17th. As I suspected, the cast had been rubbing on my incision, causing some irritation. I didn’t get to see my OS, but his PA instead. He opted not to take out all stitches, only every other stitch since the incision wasn’t all the way heeled. And then he wanted to put me into another cast!!! I put my foot down (my uninsured one, lol) and insisted on a boot. After a few minutes of pleading and having both my husband and I swear on the Bible that under NO circumstances would the boot come off, the PA relented and gave me the boot. What a difference a boot makes! There is no incision rubbing meaning no more pain! And no more pain meds! And I am proud to say that I haven’t even opened the boot! Ah, such temptation! All, in all, I left the OS’s office with a small sense of victory. Next appointment, Thursday, April 23rd when hopefully I will be cleared to begin PWB-ing. Until then, happy healing!

This is great news. Hopefully you are also sleeping better. You may start PWB this week after seeing you doctor but be prepared to wait a bit longer for anything more substantial. Your tendon has to glue itself back on to the bone as well as change form and you would not want to interupt that. If you can’t bathe the leg then there is no point taking your leg out of it at this point so resist that temptation some more. Well done for being an advocate for yourself. Pat on the back to the husband for being supportive of that as well.

Stuart, yes, I am sleeping much better, thanks. I only tease when I say I am temptied to take the boot off. I realize the need for the tendon to be at a certain angle, the OS’s main concern. I am anxious to PWB and possibly some light movements. I did try moving my toes some but am only able to move them upward not downward and definitely feel some incision pain when I do this. I am hoping now that I am in a boot the incision will heal and that pain will disapate. Yes, my husband deserves many pats on the back. He has been amazing through this ordeal.

I’m so proud of you! At 4 weeks it’s perfectly reasonable to be put in a boot. I see so many people here just sit back and let the doc do their thing even when as a patient they know they are justified in what they want, I guess it could fear of authority figures, or perhaps blind faith?? Who knows…I’m glad you’re more comfortable now. YAY you! Let us know how things go the 23rd.

Donna, I knew if another cast was put on that I would never heal. I will definitely report back after my next appt. Have a great week. Hopefully, it will start warming back up!
