Surgery a success.
December 28, 2011
It’s a little over a week since my second surgery. My surgeon consulted surgeons in Minneapolis and Omaha, NE and they all concurred on the type of surgery. My surgery consisted of an achilles reconstruction with the Flexor Hallucis transfer - Biotenodesis screw “roped” onto tendon. The surgery went well. If you go to this link it will show you pics of a surgery which is the same as the one that was performed on me. http://www.footsurgeryatlas.com/achilles-reconstruction-using-flexor-hallucis-longus-tendon-transfer-15.htm. The foot surgery atlas is a great place for reasearch as well. Currently I am NWB and in a cast, which will be removed on Jan. 4. I will then be placed back into a boot. I don’t know what degress it will be set at as of now, however, I will be able to start PT the week of Jan. 9. I am looking forward to starting the PT. As I sit here typing, I move my toes, fles my foot somewhat…as much as possible and can feel the calf muscles move easily. To me thats a great feeling considering I couldn’t do it before. I will keep everyone posted on how the incison looks and waht happens on Jan. 4.

@milford man that’s great to hear! i’m very happy for you. i can’t believe you’ll be going into a boot so quickly after surgery (basically a week). it’s taking me 6 weeks to get into a boot! i’m jealous of you LOL! Be careful & keep us updated.

Thanks, it will be 2 weeks in the cast. Then to the boot. I will still be NWB until Jan. 23, but with the boot, he wants to be able to take it off and do range of motion excercises until I can be PWB and start with more extensive PT. Makes sense, keep it limber somewhat and work it without actually stretching it to far out. He said he would be aggressive on rehab. I guess this is the start of the rehab part.

Congratulations Milford. My surgery occurred on December 8th and I just got my boot on so we may be on a similar timeline. My tendon was allografted with a cadaver Achilles (turned upside down) as well as a section of hamstring. My surgery was more like a graft jacket but much more comprehensive (due to prior ruptures).
