First week

Ruptured left Achilles’ tendon bowling on 4/10. Operated on 4/25. First couple of days was pretty bad. Pain was constant with severe spasms. Going into second week and pain not nearly as bad. Had first dr visit and he started to remove stiches but stopped after second. Said he wanted to give it another week. Put 2 butterfly band aids and a hard cast. Said I can put 10-20% weight on it. I think the worst is behind me. Looking forward to finding a way this morning to get in and out of the shower. I have a shower chair which I guess I’ll bring to the entry door and flop my butt onto it. Then hop it around to straighten it in the shower. After shower I will hop it to the shower door and reach for the walker which will be right outside. Hope it works.

  1. We are almost on the same schedule but you are a little over a week ahead of me. I’m going non-surgical and had my cast put on Wednesday.

I’ve had better luck getting into the bath tub and leaving my bad leg out. Our shower has a step and no hand holds to get in and out. Sounds like you’ve got a plan though. Hope it goes well :)

  2. Mike, are you trying to do NWB on a walker? 2 wheels and 2 legs on it? Sounds very hard. I crutched to the shower stool then leaned the crutches on the outside of the stall. Crutches on wet shiny floors are very scary, otherwise easy.

  3. Not really difficult. It’s more stable then crutches. Just slower.
