I like the plan of changing ankle at bed-time, not loading it up (at the new angle) ’til morning. No proof it works better, but it sounds logical to me.

Excellent! Two shoes in just two more weeks. That’s just six weeks post-surgery, right? Pretty good.

Ha! Mike - you and I are on the same schedule! I just posted my PT Day 2 results, from last night! Though I was more long-winded than you (that happens with me!), it sounds like we had fairly similar PT experiences, yesterday. I walked out of my therapy feeling good and confident of my recovery and return to athletics, too (though, I’m 45, not 21)!!!

On Monday my doc said to slowly transition to FWB without the crutches and it was scary at first. Each day I went a little more but after a couple of days with no pain, I went for it and now I don’t need the crutches at all. Just use pain as your guide. It is scary but it is also freeing! Today was my first full day of doing what I want, when I want (around the house that is) and it is nice. The first day was scary though and so was the second. After that, progress and confidence came a lot faster than I expected. Just passing that on!

Thats awesome to hear! I can put about 25%bw on it but im scared to push it any further. Just need to keep working on this mental barrier I’ve built in my head. Thanks for the advice, I’m deff not gonna rush this one.

Hi Mike, I know exactly where you are coming from, I am 6 weeks post op and up until Wednesday I was PWB with two crutches. I decided to take the plunge and do some 1 crutch walking at work, it was difficult and very scary but after 20 minutes I felt good. Today I decided to throw them in the corner at my parents place while we were there and go for it. So this evening, I am back to walking (in a very strange looking manner) around my own house for the first time in 7 weeks, it feels great. I say take your time and try it at a time that ‘feels right’ to you, that’s what worked for me. A big part of it for me was confidence as there is no pain involved, also, my physio threatened to steel my crutches. Good luck!

I was 25 at my first rupture and 26 for ruptures two and three.I am also an athlete, currently in school for a Fitness Technology certificate. Needless to say, it’s easy for our kind to “overdo” it, though it doesn’t feel that way to us.

I discovered through my journey that I had orthopedic problems: one leg longer than the other and excessively high arches causing pretty extreme foot eversion problems. I always thought I just had bad balance! Analyze some of these avenues for yourself as you heal; orthopedic custom shoe inserts have made my situation much better! Best of luck to you.

Hey Victoria, I appreciate the support. I agree with you saying that its just from being athletic and always on the move too. That quote about it being an “old person injury” was just from one of the doctors I saw, just thought it was funny at the time. Hope your recovery is going well too!

I’m 26, and I too ruptured my A playing basketball. I had surgery a day before you but I am on a more conservative recovery path. Welcome to the site. Hopefully we’ll all recover sooner than later And we can get back ASAP. It’s a pretty annoying injury, but it’s cool people on here support you. Look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome, I’m 24 so I get where you’re coming from, I tore mine playing soccer. I don’t think it’s an “old person injury” though…I think it’s just being athletic. Hopefully you’re recovery goes well!
