Single Heel Lifts! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!!

Need I say more. Its a single heel lift that a pixie would be proud of, but I am grinning like a Cheshire Cat :-)

Following a satisfying session in the hospital gym yesterday doing  a bit of cardio, some quads, lunges, the catching the ball on the trampette whilst balancing routine etc, the physio came over to me to see how I was doing. We admired my stepping down display ie I bent my bad leg at the knee and stepped down with good leg whilst keeping the hips level, I showed her my progress with with heel raises, then she challenged me to a single heel lift. I tried and although almost nothing happened….something did! She said to try with my knee slightly bent.  Then she added a new exercise to my routine which is similar to trying to shuffle on  the balls of my feet with knees slightly bent, just for 20 seconds at a time! Okaayyy, looks pretty stupid but its new and exciting to me, and not as stupid looking as when I was doing lunges at Palma airport the other week when we were delayed!

Anyway, tonight I’ve given the single heel lift a try again and Hey Presto, possibly as little as less than a centimeter and lasting all of 2 seconds. RESULT!!!

  1. Woo Hoo! Congrats Micah! I’m really happy for you.

  2. Congrats Mich! Pretty exciting stuff. A pixie heel lift sounds pretty darn good. Keep up the good work.

  3. That’s awesome, Micah! I keep thinking that one of these days I’m going to get some single leg upward movement! I guess I’m just going to have to follow your lead. Keep up the most excellent work!

  4. Great news. For me it took a few times for my mind to once again control those unused muscles . As they say, a centimeter here, a centimeter there, soon you will be inches high.

Inches are bigger than centimeters, right? ;).

    Take care,

  5. Awesome news - my PT just gave me the go ahead to start working on it. I try like mad but that thing never comes off the ground, can’t wait to experience the same awesome feeling you had from it!!! Congrats

  6. I periodically try single heel raises while waiting in line or just hanging out….but other than the strained look on my face I got nothing. It kind of embarrasses my kids which naturally mkes me try even harder!

  7. Thanks everyone for being as excited as me about the heel raises. I hope you will raise a glass with me tonight.
Fancy missing an opportunity to make my teenager wince in shame! Lol. ;-)

  8. Oh I’ll raise a glass to that!!!

  9. Lodin and Micah- I embarrass my teen by merely being near him in public, so why not get some reps in ……

FYI - I found rolling from my heel helps.

    Take care,

  10. Craig - Your comment gives me the impression that I will need to ask “permission” to do new things. This never occurred to me before. Begging forgiveness seemed so much easier. :( Good thing I’m still learning while the cast is still on.

  11. Yeah!! I remember feeling soo excited that day!

  12. Brokendad - It is our JOB to embarrass them.

I find using my arms and putting all of my weight on a counter, or a child’s shoulders and making loud grunting noises really helps me!

  13. Well done!!
I am dreaming of a single heel lift!

  14. Congratulations! I can do hands free double heel lifts but have to put my hands down and bent knee heel lift. Still working to strengthen my ankle.
