Hi everyone,
I am supossed to be out of my 2nd cast and start walking in two shoes next week (6 weeks post-surgery). My doctor says I shoud start walking inmediately with the help of crutches and a pair of heel insoles inserted in my sport-shoes, but the fact is that I am a bit hesitant and a little afraid about using the tendon again. Last comments about re-ruptures (hope Dave and Chip are doing better now!) have made me scary about not having any protection (no cast or boot) around the ankle.
I would like to know how other people faced the beggining of their recovery, which where the feelings the firts days out of cast or boot and when did you start to get confident to start usin the tendon again.
Thanks for your great work Dennis and keep on recovering buddies!

I am 9 weeks out and have been out of boot for about 3 weeks. When I started, I just trusted what I felt. I walked flat footed for a while and limped around. Then I started to use my calf as long as it “felt” right. It’s funny how you have to think about using that muscle again. Use pain as your guide. If it hurts, dont do it.

I pretty much did the same thing as mbots. I mostly stayed in my comfort zone until I felt better about taking the next step.

Me too. 6 weeks out and doc wanted me in shoes but I said i needed another 2 weeks in the boot. The tendon seems just a little too vulnerable to expose at this point.

Thanks buddies,
I will take it very easy, just progresing as my tendon lets me now how it feels.
Just came back from buying new sport shoes. I told the guy in the shop that I wanted the most cushioned and comfortable shoes. He gave me a pair of old school New Balance running shoes, he said nothing beats this model. We’ll see how they work.
