The value of “getting out”

Posted on April 5, 2009.

It was quite warm here in NJ today.  65 and sunny.  My wife set me up with a two chairs, my favorite pillows and a newspaper.  I basked in the sun for almost 3 hours.

I watched my 3 year old daughter - fascinated by the tiny bugs wandering the sidewalk - picking flowers and feeding the birds through the fence (so the dog wouldn’t get it).  I felt the nice breeze and enjoyed the potassium packed lunch brought by my wife….

Quite simply, I enjoyed something other than the couch or my bed.  It lifted my spirit and reminded me of my need to enjoy things, even in light of the cast on my foot.  So - turn off the TV, put away the magazines, go out and enjoy the good things of life.  Look around, watch see things you wouldn’t normally.

It is the best medicine of all.

Matt,

What a great post. I agree, the weather her in Buffalo was nice yesterday…lot of sun but still quite chilly. Got out of the house with the wife and two boys to my favorite hot dog stand, two dogs loaded with curly fries…yum. So good to be out of the chair I have come to live in during this. Feels funny sitting in passenger seat of my truck, I drive everywhere when we go somewhere normally and now I just ride along looking at things I never noticed before. Good luck
