Glad We Are Back!

Hi All,

Kudos to Dennis for getting us back online!!!  Checking the blog has become a nice routine for me and geez was I missing it!!  I also have some good news…now I am over 9 weeks out from surgery, and I am in the boot without crutches and able to put full weight on the foot.  Am walking really easily in the boot.  My flexibility is already good…my foot comes back to 90 degrees, and almost better; the only difference in flex between it and the “good foot” is about 1/4 inch!!!  Also, the wound looks good…the scab is finally gone and the foot is beginning to look like it belongs to me again.  The tendon is nice and narrow…in fact, it’s about the same size as the “good” tendon which (as a girl) makes me feel better about how it looks.

Of course, my calf muscle is non-existent and I am finding it hard to keep my weight off (I had lost 23 pounds but it’s trying to creep back on….), but my doctor wants me to start bike riding…he says without the boot!  Well, I’m a little scared to do that, but I am trying to find a way to inject time to work out back into my life.  Since I’ve been without it for a while, I’ve found other things to fill the time so it’s going to be tough to get back into it.

As far as running goes…I still have a bad attitude about it.  For me, if I can’t be the best in town, I don’t want to mess with it at all.  The kind of speed work that this requires (200’s under 30 secs. and 400’s around 60 secs.) — just the thought of doing it — really scares me.  My doctor seems to think I’ll be “better than new”…but I’m sure you all can relate when I say I don’t ever want to have to endure something like this again!!

Hope everyone’s healing is going well…so glad to be back online!

  1. mary - thanks for the update. Yes, the site is back but I am still working a few of the kinks out. Please be patient. :) Glad that you are able to walk in the boot. It does make a great deal of difference when you can walk with two free hands. happy healing!

  2. I think I can post now, after a few days of technical glitches. Yay! The withdrawal symptoms have been AWFUL!

I’m sure it was just coincidence that the site was shut down immediately after I’d posted about seven LONG posts!!
