Part-time Full Weight Bearing!

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

I finally worked up the nerve to go with one crutch for the past few days and now this evening I have finally been walking around in the house with just the boot and no crutches. Physical Therapy starts Monday.

If I were rich I’d buy these, too… and a question

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

The “Evenup” goes onto the bottom of whatever shoe you are wearing on the non-boot foot to minimize the difference in leg length when wearing the boot.  http://www.evenupcorp.com/
Question: Are you only considered FWB when you are in two shoes? Or are you FWB if you are still using the boot all the time, but are [...]

Ladies, I found “the shoe”!

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

It’s the Easy Spirit Genius clog- the bottom is almost as fat as the boot, so I’m finally “walking”  evenly. They were on sale at Macy’s. They are not so ugly - I think I’ll even like them once I can wear both!

Next year at Christmas-time

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

Christmas cookie batter, nutmeg and ginger all over the  boot.
Wishing you all a happy Christmas and a joyous,  healthy new year. Just think, next Christmas we’ll ALL be past the magic 12 month mark.

Overcame the fear!

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Just like my fellow ATRs assured me, once I started touching my toes to the ground, I got braver and braver and now today I really am partial weight bearing.  I tried using one crutch, but I’m not there yet. Oh, well, it feels great to be doing something that approximates walking again.

Partial Weight Bearing=Completely Confusing

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

So my doctor says partial weight bearing (in the boot) as tolerated. What does that mean? I am so scared to put my foot on the ground that I basically just barely touch the bottom of the boot to the ground with the 2 crutches. And he says do range of motion with the boot [...]

As Tolerated…

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Went to the doc this AM for my 4 week post-op visit. Got the cast off, got put in a boot (no wedges), and told “partial weight bearing as tolerated.” PT starts in January. 3 X weekly for 4 weeks.  Better news than I thought I would get, last visit he was thinking maybe the [...]

Another thing I couldn’t do

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

Going out to dinner for DH’s 50th birthday. I had hoped to have a big bash for him, he so deserves it. But you know how this stupid Achilles thing derails all your plans for quite a while. It took so much effort just to get ready to go out for pizza, I can’t wait [...]

Getting a leg up

Friday, December 11th, 2009

I tried to go without elevating my leg at work yesterday. It’s so awkward in an office setting, and I can’t really reach my keyboard. I tried a wireless keyboard and a mouse platform, but still…So when I got home, my toes looked like grapes, and everything was throbbing from my knee down. So back [...]

It NEVER rains in Phoenix

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Except today. My first day back at work, naturally. Rained all day. Got a lift home from work, made it up to the porch, crutch slipped out and I put all my (considerable) weight on my big toe. I might have said a bad word. I had many bad thoughts. Worried, now.
