I finally worked up the nerve to go with one crutch for the past few days and now this evening I have finally been walking around in the house with just the boot and no crutches. Physical Therapy starts Monday.
The “Evenup” goes onto the bottom of whatever shoe you are wearing on the non-boot foot to minimize the difference in leg length when wearing the boot. http://www.evenupcorp.com/

It’s the Easy Spirit Genius clog- the bottom is almost as fat as the boot, so I’m finally “walking” evenly. They were on sale at Macy’s. They are not so ugly - I think I’ll even like them once I can wear both!

Just like my fellow ATRs assured me, once I started touching my toes to the ground, I got braver and braver and now today I really am partial weight bearing. I tried using one crutch, but I’m not there yet. Oh, well, it feels great to be doing something that approximates walking again.
So my doctor says partial weight bearing (in the boot) as tolerated. What does that mean? I am so scared to put my foot on the ground that I basically just barely touch the bottom of the boot to the ground with the 2 crutches. And he says do range of motion with the boot [...]

I tried to go without elevating my leg at work yesterday. It’s so awkward in an office setting, and I can’t really reach my keyboard. Except today. My first day back at work, naturally. Rained all day. Got a lift home from work, made it up to the porch, crutch slipped out and I put all my (considerable) weight on my big toe. I might have said a bad word. I had many bad thoughts. Worried, now.
