Post Op - Day 2

October 12th, 2008

Well I am post op- day 2.  Apparently I shredded the tendon and the doctor had a difficult time locating the tendon and ”sewing” the tendons together. The surgery went from 1 hour to 3.5 hours. I am pretty stoked I do have some pictures from the surgery.  They are pretty amazing (better than pictures I found on google.)  I am a bit surprised by the amount of pain I have been in.  I did not want to take the pain medications (Vicodin) however I can not sleep due to the pain and have had a difficult time relaxing.  I have this burning sensation - is that normal, typical?  I do know that I have a larger incision because of the difficulty they had locating the tendon - so that also means that  my tendon is going to be shorter.  Figures, nothing is easy.

I am really grateful for this website - any suggestions people have with the post op recovery is much appreciated.  Good luck to everyone else.

My leg is finally not numb.  That really freaked me out - I had to have assistance standing up because I could not move my leg.  Weirdest and scariest feeling I have ever had.  Needless to say, I am happy I know have some feeling back.

Nice! You got pictures! I have to ask my doctor to see if they have pics of mine op. Well, the recovery finally begins. My leg was not completely numb post-op but partially. The anesthesologist was like scaring me saying that I better protect it like a baby because my leg would be numb and if I put it next to something hot I would not feel a thing.

I also have the burning sensation but it’s not always present; it comes and goes. I think that’s just related to the healing process. I heard from other members that it’s good to start wiggling toes and etc. I am not sure about this because my doctor never said anything about it; but if you look at my post that links to an article, it does show starting early movements help so I am moving my toes whenever I get the chance even though it’s still in a boot. Best!

    Hi,

    Daz here from the UK.

You must have gone through the mill to have an operation last 3.5 hours. I am 14 days post op today and go back for my check up to see if everything is healing ok. Both my physio and my orthopedic therapist advised mt to wiggle my toes as frequent as I am comfortable with. I must admit i was worried the first few days but after that i wiggled them a regularly during the day and it did get easier over the two week period.

    Take Care.

mandy - be sure to get plenty of rest, and let your body heal. I’ve pretty much stayed in bed or at the desk to minimize falling/mishap for the first two weeks. Elevate your leg above your heart.

There’s a wealth of information from both the main site where we’ve consolidated a lot of the information and the individual blogs. Keep reading, and feel free to ask if you have any specific questions.
