Well it popped. I was training for soccer on a monday afternoon. I was running in between cones and planted my right foot and pop it went. The one wierd thing  was that it popped towards the end of my training session. I was warmed up by then although I will say, I probably was pushing my training a bit and did not rest from a long session on Sunday. So, i guess the tendon was overworked and just wore out.

I heard the pop and went down. Initially it hurt a bit but then it has not hurt again. I knew something was really wrong, my foot felt like jello. I did not get up, luckily my wife (who is 7 months pregnant) was around. She came and picked me up and we went to the ER. Six hours later and crutches with a silly ankle brace, I went home. I made a visit to the Orthopeadic the following day and he said I needed surgery, which I had already determined.  So surgery is scheduled for Wed 8/6/08. Can’t wait to get the this long process started.

Thanks to everyone who has posted their experiences, it has helped me out tremendously.

Mario - It was like that for me too. I ruptured my achilles the last basketball game that I played. I had set out one game before, so maybe I had stiffened up. Who knows..?

    Mario…

Sorry to hear about your situation. We have been there and know what you’re going thru. Read the blogs, ask questions and unfortunately TIME is what this injury needs. Be a patient patient, cause there will be times when your frustrated and pissed off.
Congrats on the baby to come.

M- hang in there. You will love putting the surgery date in the past b/c it means you are on your way to recovery. Doc Ross has it right. Its all about Time. Mostly I have good thankful days. But sometimes I’m just freakin pissed cuz i want to go running, or swimming, or just to the grocery store. It does get better each day.

    New baby! fun!

    Keep us posted. KKDUB

Mario bad luck! It seems luck is a big part of it as ATRs have happened to all kinds of people in all kinds of situations. You will love this site so you have already made a big step forward by finding it; its a mine of useful info and encouragement. My advice is dont fight it; try and accept whats happened and that it will take lots of time to recover. Easier said than done, I know. I cursed myself a million times for not warming up before playing. The good thing is that recovery feels faster as time goes by (so far for me). Congrats on the baby - you should be walking in time for the birth.

Mario, hope surgery goes well for you today. Remember to keep that leg elevated, and don’t be afraid to take your pain medication for the first few days. It will be tough at times, but following in the footsteps of this big group of people who have been there, you’ll make it. Think of it as a chance to enjoy some relaxing time with your wife over the next 2+ months, as you wait for the newest member of your family.
