Some recent video of hoop drills, as I now creep up on the 2 year anniversary of my ATR. I suppose I am also creeping up on the point at which the ceiling for “improvement” will be driven by age and time limitations, and no longer related to the ATR or the atrophy caused by all those weeks of casts, crutches and walking boots. It’s amazing the extent to which an ATR can become a defining moment in a person’s life, especially for those of us who thrive on physical exercise and the bio-feedback (read: PAIN) of a good workout.
I figure I will try to post an update to “celebrate” the 2 year anniversary, and then will relegate myself to reading others’ blogs and hopefully trying to offer encouragement to the unfortunate souls who join us here in our exclusive club. continued recovery and good luck to the rest of you…
P.S. Since we are now also celebrating the one-year anniversary of our move to Switzerland, have tried below an update in the local variant of Swiss German. My language “skills” are also a work-in-progress, and probably have some catching up to do with the achilles, but nevertheless…
Wünschi all oi en gueti verbesserig und viel glück…

This such a breath of fresh air for those who are on the long road to recovery. Just to see you running up and down the court and jumping gives us all some hope that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Last night, after about 2.5 hours of (indoor, 3-on-3 & 4-on-4) beach volleyball with a bunch of young buddies(my first vball since May), the ~42-yr-old (oldest of the bunch) announced that he could only play one more game because his legs were noodles. This 67-yr-old could relate! Good and stiff today.

Great to see long the triumphs of recovery such as this… thanks for remembering the site and sharing with us
Agree totally with crutchesintx, inspiring to know that with continued exercise and training the seemingly impossible (at the time) becomes not just possible, but a reality.
Congratulations on such a complete recovery, awesome!!

I’m still emotionally “surfing” on the last few games I played last Sat night, in my SECOND session of indoor beach volleyball since May. Alone, no buddies, small crowd (”only” 5 courts!), started 6-on-6 with some decent players, then some 4-on-4 with some good players. A break for drinks &c. after I’d played ~2 hours. I felt fine, but I was still thinking of hitting the shower then, pre-noodle-legs.
Instead, some of the good players suggested playing some 2-on-2, and one of the better players asked me if I wanted to team up with him. Hell YES!! We played two totally delightful games (& kicked butt!). Another break, I went to the shower after 2.5 hours of play, still no noodle-legs and on a rush!
Only downside is I’m not sure this qualifies as “aging gracefully” for a 67-year-old… I do know that I can’t keep this up forever, but nobody can, and it’s such a joy! (& no, my left-side 1LHR is still way wimpy!)

You sure that they didn’t fit something bionic in those old pins of yours?
