Week 12 - 13
Just had my physio and despite some aches and pains she’s very pleased with my progress. My AT is responding really well and much more flexible, this means the weakness in the calf is more noticable now, so its on with the two footed calf raises, I have to admit I find this so difficult. The increased amount of walking etc has caused some niggly pains to appear in the join but I guess thats to be expected. They do subside when rested but I suppose I really have to try not to push things too hard. It’s a difficult balance to strike, making what you do developmental but not too stressful on the whole foot. Keep healing everyone

Glad to hear your physio is pleased with your progress. I guess we dont really know the toll we must on the calf muscle until it’s time to use it again.
Typical though, I have a hospital appointment tomorrow morning (Warrington) and the snows starting to fall again! “wish me luck” (or rather my wife who is now the designated driver).
Take care in the snow and as you say keep healing!

Sounds like you’re doing really well. If you combine being aggressive in your PT with listening to your AT so you don’t overdo, you’re going to progress by leaps and bounds. Keep up the good work.

Well done on your progress. The calf raises are difficult and I’m still finding them hard work, but they seem to be the key to getting the strength back. My calf is still quite flabby and noticeably thinner than the other but I can see small improvements week by week. Aches and pains come with the territory, but honestly they come less often. There are times where I actually forget about my AT, instead of it ruling my life, you will be there in a couple of weeks. Take care in the snow and ice.

Great to hear of your progress and really interesting to me as I am just a couple of weeks behind you. Think there’s something massively important about listening to your body and not pushing on through pain when dealing with the achilles. slow and steady seems to be the motto - Good Luck!

Hi LL,
I am at the two leg calf raise stage also. I was rather tentative at first and at present i still put most weight on the uninjured leg. How are you doing with the single leg standing for balance? My ankle is feeling stiff but i am sure it is from the added workouts of walking and exercises. Are you still using the boot? I have put mine away and taking extra care outside. All the best with your recovery. Paul

Hi Paul,
Yes boot been away for over week and now on my own two feet all the time, which is quite scary in this weather we’re having at the moment. I’ve invested in some little spikey thinks that go on the bottom of my shoes so that I don’t slip. The one leg balance I find easy now and can do over a minute!!! However the calf raises are still a battle. It’s that balance between pushing it to make progress and listening to my AT. The stifness in my ankle is SLOWLY receeding, the stretches from my physio seem to be working on thta, but as ever not as quickly as I would like. The increased workouts and walking have resulted in an increase in aches and pains in my foot and ankle join but they too are on the wain now. This is such a great (but scary) part of the recovery because each week I feel like I get a bit more of my old life back. Carry on healing everyone. LL
