Moving forward
Just back from my physio and another successful visit. More stretches, more strength and some focused massage and stretching of the tendon, which made it feel wonderful. She’s very pleased at the improvement in my walking and said the limp had visible decreased. Discussed going back to work in Jan and she said yes. So term will begin on the 4th Jan. I’ve got to admit it’s a bit of a scary thought. But after reading Teresa’a last blog I know I can do it. I’ve 3 more weeks to build strength and get much more flexibility.
For those of you at the beginning of this journey, it does get better. Stay positive and when your not this blog is a wonderful support.

liverpoollass,
Nice going…you are really making headway. Sounds like you have a good physio experience (I’m envious) and steadily moving forward to a complete recovery. Exciting that you will be returning to work in January and you have three more weeks to build strength. I’m sure you will do it! And, you are so right–what would we all do without this blog? It’s a God send and the people here are just the BEST.

Totally agree Northrancher. Keep up the search for a good PT, although I don’t think it’s the be all and end all of a good recovery but it certainly guides you onto the right path. She did some ‘deep stretching’ massage type stuff on my AT and ankle this week and my ankle felt wonderful. Wish I had her on tap to do that every morning, because although that horrid morning stiffness is receeding it still makes me anxious - can’t wait for the day when I just get up and don’t have to think about my AT - if that ever comes!!! Keep healing and good luck with the physio.

Congrats LL, you’re on your way! It might be worth asking the school about slowly building up to a full working week. After my first week (3 short days) I am stiff, tired and looking forward to my Friday night glass or two of wine. The occ health nurse made me see that this is normal and expected and I need to work within my limits.
As far as your early morning stiffness is concerned, I’ve found that massaging some oil into my AT after a hot bath helps me to get moving in the morning. You can feel the tightness and lumpiness soften up and it feels a lot looser.
Believe me, there are times I don’t actually think about my AT now!

LL, good to hear the PT thinks you are doing well as In my limited experience , mine will tell my exaclty what he’s thinking .
As for Jan 4th, if i was you and if it was possible with your employers , Id leve it nearer the date to decide . A week at the most is the notice I want to give . The 3weeks you have left before than might be enough but as you know with this injury , it is very hard to know how you will progress over the next 3 weeks .
take care and keep ging ,
Phil

Thanks Phil,
I know you’re right. I will wait, I’, visiting my GP in between christmas and new year for a discussion about my return to work. As you say you can never tell with this injury, I have had a couple of nights out recently and the swelling and development of aches and pains due to the increased hours standing show me just how difficult a return would be. So as always witht he ATR slowly does it. Today is a day with feet up and resting. Thanks for your words of advice they are needed.
