Hey All!

Just another AchillesBlog.com weblog

Hey everyone!

Well I came on here to see if other people were experiencing the same things I am.  Whoever came up with this site is genius!  Anyways I am 21 and sadly I tore my achilles tendon just like everyone else on here.  It is pretty sad to say that I tore it playing flag football!   I now learned to not engage in sports activities whenever I am running on 3 hours of sleep and not properly hydrated.  I heard the POP that everyone talks about and immediately knew that something was wrong.  Luckily for me I work in the imaging department at our hospital and our Radiologist was able to get me an Ortho very quickly.  It was not completely torn, but only threads of it were holding onto my calf muscle from what the MRI showed.

I am going on 2 1/2 weeks post-op.  The removing of the stitches hurt like crazy! Now I am in a cast and go back to the doctor next thursday. I was told that I will have a cast on for 6 weeks NWB.  This whole situation totally bummed me, but there are plenty of others out there going through this! Well I started this to see if anyone has experienced a burning sensation in their heel? If anyone else has gone through this let me know!  Thanks! :)

Oh the heel and ball of my foot burn sometimes. I think I have narrowed it down to the dreaded elevation and maybe even cold/damp weather. Seems to be better for me to keep a sock over my toes whenever possible. Hang in there. I am 22 days post op. Should go to a boot on 12/16.

Thanks for the response quickfix! You are pretty young as well, but I have been told that age is on our side! I hope that boot works good for you, i’ll check your blog to see how it goes…take care

Yes, I get that heel burn, too. Usually at the end of a day when I haven’t elevated my leg enough at work. I’m 3 weeks post-op. Sometimes it helps at night if I turn on my side with the injured leg on top (still keeping the leg elevated with pillows between my knees) to get the heel off the cast at the bottom. Get better every day.

Hey welcome to the club !!! Funny thing is I tore my achilles playing Flag Football too so it feels good to know I wasn’t the only but your lucky compared to me…mine was a complete rupture. But anyways I know exactly how you feel now and how you felt in the beginning. If I can give you any words of encouragement it would be to shake it off because it’s only temporary and be optimistic. I’m going on 8 weeks post op and I stil have the boot and I long for the day I get to wear 2 shoes again and I can’t wait but be patient! Check out my blog to see my progress and read my story. I have some good pics on there too! Best of luck!
