10 Weeks and counting….

Well its been 10 weeks. I saw the doc yesterday and he said everything is looking good.  He was impressed with the ROM and stated that it looked like I was running a month ahead of schedule.  Needless to say, I still have very little strength. The doc said despite this situation, it was still going to be a full 6 month process….. I have started working out again, mainly upper body with some air squats mixed in……..Can’t wait to get back into things………so for all you still struggling, there is still hope!

Stay positive……. I know its not easy.

You do sound like you’re healing well, and quickly. Not out of the woods yet, though. Avoid missteps for the next few weeks and you may yet beat your Doc’s timetable.

Hi Larry! I am 8 weeks post op. Walking in a boot. Ditched the crutches last week. When did you start PT? My doc is telling me light stretching only until 12 weeks.

Hey Beth, I started PT about 4 weeks after surgery. Granted I was still in my boot, but it was primarily range of motion exercises, ice, and electro stim. Since this is my second time around I can tell you PT is key to breaking up the scar tissue and getting your foot moving again. It may not seem like much, but I have been able to stay ahead of the scar tissue making it a less painful recovery than the first time around 11yrs ago.

I was driving with the boot around this time as well. Just if u do it, do yourself a favor and take a couple practice rounds. I tried driving with the left foot and my muscle memory was just too strong. I almost hit my neighbors dog. I ended up just using my right (booted foot) to control the gas and break. I felt much more safe using this method. Its almost 12week for me now and I am walking fine with a slight limp. Heel fatigue and swelling are the only things holding me back now. Despite my condition the doc is still telling me to use caution as it will be a full 6 month process…best of luck Beth, and stay positive……p.s. stay away from those evil pain pills too!

Thanks Larry. I am starting PT this week. I have been doing the alphabet with my foot, light stretching, icing, elevating, on my own, for a month or so now. I also workout my upper body and abs, some yoga on the knees as well. The incision looks awesome however is still sore to the touch so I am not sure how much massage I could take. light massage perhaps. I feel great walking without the boot, just look a little awkward :) I hear ya on the pain meds. PS - I grew up in Chester.
