Enjoying tennis, beaches, pools and “normal” life 1yr 4mths post op, wound, etc.
Dennis-I love all the changes you’ve made to the site! AWESOME JOB! Yep, I’ve been lax at posting. I do read posts every couple weeks. Seems like yesterday I was where most of you are. I’m back to playing tennis all the time now. I’m 1 yr, 4mth post op. And, still have crazy scar tissue that has built up and not sure if it will ever break down. I try and massage the area regularly, and get some 30 minute massages just on the achilles. I still have this scab thing going on. When people see my foot they still say, “What happened to you?” and, they can’t believe that it looks like it does after 15 mths. I keep reminding myself that it was a huge hole and it looks so much better.
I love resuming my normal, every day things. I empathize every time I see someone on crutches. My crutches, shower stool and knee walker are still around, and let’s hope I never need them again. Prior to my kids school year, they have a day where you go to school and meet the teacher…I remembered that this time last year I was using my knee walker zooming around the school. The kids thought I was so cool.
To all of you newly ruptured…you’ll be back to normal soon. It just takes time and patience. I appreciate my mobility so much more now as a result of the achilles journey. Happy Healing and Much Patience to you all!
Sounds like you’ve had a really tough recovery. It’s true this injury does make you realise what you take for granted - mobility is so important for “normal” life, but many people cope with permanent difficulties in getting around. I am so looking forward to just being able to walk again and if I can run too…!!!!
Best of luck with the scab and continuing improvement, Sam
Very encouraging to see that you are back to normal after such an ordeal. I was able to find only the 11 weeks post with those horrendous pics on the site. I guess the rest was removed?
Congratulations!
Hey Sam66-Yes, walking is so great after being immobile! I recall me always saying, “I just want to be able to walk again without crutches.”
2ndtimer-Thanks for the well wishes. Happy healing to u too. If you click on Home u can see all the blog from the beginning. See, most of u guys r on here…so I had to put up some gross pics to try and make u guys feel squeemish.
Kristin - Great to read your update. I’m glad that things have returned to “normal” and you’re back on the tennis courts. I really appreciate your positive attitude through your experience. It’s a good example for all. Congrats on your progress!
I have to agree with tomtom, your stoicism, good nature and all-round positive attitude throughout your ordeal was very impressive.
As for your gross-out pictures, that WAS mayonnaise wasn’t it?
Yay Kristin!! It was a looong race, and though a few spots were very rough, look how far you’ve come. It’s like watching earlier marathoners finishing the race when you have quite a few more. Nevertheless, we’re all in the same race, at our own paces, all with the determination to finish the best way we can.
Isn’t it funny that there are a few lost months/year that remain fuzzy because all we could contend with was our injury?
I’m sure your scabbed ankle is beautiful because your wound is closed, you’re walking and beginning to get normal again. Congratulations and keep on getting better!
Really proud of you Kris! As a fellow Atlantan and tennis player, I know how wonderful it must feel to again go for that over-head. I am at 10 months post -op and really enjoying tennis again. Maybe we will meet up in an ALTA match during winter-mixed…wouldn’t that be something. Take care!
