Hello Gimpy Friends! I’ve been reading your posts and most of us are progressing pretty well. I’m still limping quite a bit. I need to do a lot of exercises throughout the day, but I’ve been pretty bad about that. It’s really nice to be free of the crutches. The other day I went to my closet and put them under my arms and it felt like forever ago that I was on them. I was on them for 5 mths, but it seemed like ages ago since I was there. So, it’s nice to think that I’ve forgotten about some of the worst parts of NWB and things like that.
My wound is doing better. I think that the weight bearing and the electro-stim in rehab has really helped the blood flow and is helping make my wound close a teeny bit faster….saying faster with my wound is kinda funny.
Anyway, I’ve attached the latest pic. If you want to really gross out, look at my first posts with the hole…looks much better now. Today at the Wound Center I told my Dr. that I’m divorcing him by Thanksgiving. So, he’s shooting for me to be closed by Columbus Day (like who in the hell knows when that is???) which is mid-October. So, we’ll be getting out any types of magic potions so that I’ll be closed then. My surgery was April 15th….so, it would be 6+ mths to close. Yikes…hard to believe. And, it’s almost time for my handicap sticker to expire. I thought I’d be running by now.
Hang in there everyone! You can do it! It’s nice to be able to see the various stages everyone is at. Helps to go through this together. Take care! Oh, if anyone is around Atlanta, we’re having a party. My hubby and I say…”We never have people over.” Well, we are now…we’ll be having 65 folks come over for a cookout, so stop by if you’re in the area. It’s nice to be able to do something like this…and NOT be on crutches.
Nighty Night Friends!

I’m 2 footed now (how do you update next to your name to say 2 shoes?) and it’s nice to be free of crutches. If I had a dollar for every time my crutch fell I’d be rich! The one big disadvantage of being 2 footed is finding the mate to my socks. It was nice to only need 1 sock…I can never seem to find that 2nd sock. Such problems… I’m enjoying going to rehab twice a week. It’s fun to meet others who are gimpy, some worse off…but ususally our ATR beat everyone else’s injuries. At rehab some of the folks treat the rehab like a gym. I guess I should do my workouts there too.
One thing that I’m thinking is going to be hard to do is to EASE into biking and the elliptical. As many of you, I worked out really hard. I’m not sure how I’ll know how easy to take it on the bike and elliptical when I’m used to going really hard. Any suggestions here would be great.
Shoes-Thanks bloggers for all your suggestions. I bought me some New Balance mules…and they are great! The only disadvantage is when my bad foot swells it’s hard to wear them. When I’m dressed up, I wear some other mary-jane-type mules. So, I’m getting the gimpy fashion thing down.
It’s been 5 mths now…and, I’ve always said…I just want to walk. YEAH! I’m walking…albeit with a limp…but it’s nice to see some progress. In time everything heals…yippee! When I got my handicap tag in April…it said it expired in October and I remember thinking that there’s no way I’d still need the tag that long. Can’t believe it’s almost October. How time flies! I know my husband is enjoying me functioning and walking…less work on him. I still don’t take the trash out and carry laundry downstairs yet. That’s another advantage to this injury.
I’ve learned a lot on this little hiccup. And, the two most important things is patience and being present. As we are healing, we can do all the right things…but sometimes things take longer to heal..and there’s no readon…that’s just the way it is. And, I’m trying to be present each day…being present for myself, my family..and being a better friend and reaching out…even when not asked to do so. As we all know..the little things are SO appreciated!
My last post I didn’t have my updated glamour shots. So, I’m attaching them now. The black thing in the picture isn’t anything bad…it’s silver nitrate that they put on the wound…so, that’s what that is. It looks a lot better. And, I’m almost there! It will be a great day when my wound closes and I can shower without the shower condom.
Hang in there gimpy family!
