Happy New Year!
December 31, 2008 by kris
May you all a Happy New Year, and to those still healing, keep the faith. I am six days from surgery and am feeling anxious. I have not suffered the rupture most of you have experienced but rather, a grose degeneration of my achilles, toe flexors, and general ankle/foot deterioration. I look forward to my surgery with great excuberence as I know that the end result for me may be life-changing. This site and it’s parcipitants have been of great comfort and guidance for me and I thank all of you. Sharing your stories has given me the strength to persue surgeries not before available to me, but that I can now tack advantage of and hopefully benefit from. Things can’t get much worse for me except for the shadow of a wheelchair. I guess we’ll see if I have the strength to over-shadowing that shadow. You are a bunch of really cool people and I’m glad I found you. You’re tough, positive, and resilient, I like that. So, Good health, much love, and laughter to you all this New Year.
Hi Kris,
Good luck to you in your coming adventure! Like you, I didn’t experience a ruptured Achilles tendon. In my case I had a bone spur which kept growing and eventually damaged the AT. So far, eight weeks post op, I’m doing great and anticipate a fast recovery. I think from what I’ve read so far, those of us who didn’t rupture our AT seem to have a bit of an advantage. As I’ve recommended to others, there are two things which can help you. Rent a knee walker rather than use crutches (I didn’t have to use them once!) and go to http://www.drycorp.com and buy a cast protector for when you want to take a shower or bath. You will have no fears of the cast ever getting wet.
Regards,
Denny
I keep trying to remind myself of what I’ve been blessed with throughout this difficult bump in the road. And that it is just a bump and there are many things that could be worse!
This site has also given me hope since I only know of a few people who’ve suffered this injury/condition.
I hope the surgery gives you all that u hope it will!
Happy 2009!

Kris - Happy New Year, and keep us posted on your recovery. Eat healthy, rest, and let your body heal.
Hi, I noticed that your surgery date is in two days so I just wanted to wish you luck and send a prayer your way. I hope everything goes smoothly for you!
Thanks to everyone who responded to my post and thanks for the tips as well. I am anxious but ready. Dennis would you mind setting up the timeline widget thingy for me? I am no good at following written directions. I sure would appreciate it if you could. I am scheduled for an overnight stay so I guess I’ll start posting on 01/07. Thanks again all for the well wishes. kris
Hi Kris
I am almost 4 weeks post-op so I’m 4 weeks ahead of you. Good luck tomorrow, I’ll be thinking of you. It’s good you get to stay overnight so you can learn how to move around when you get home. I stayed by myself at home the first night and it would have been nice to have someone around. Look forward to talking to you on the 7th and see how your surgery went. I too did not have a complete rupture. I had a foot deformity and heel spur growing into my tendon. They un-attached the tendon, cut out the spur, repaired the deformity and then re-attached the tendon with screws. Maybe we can compare notes. Good luck again!

kris - I’ve added the two ATR widgets to your blog. Please let me know if looks okay. Good luck on your surgery.
Kris
Just wanted to check in with you to see how your surgery went. Hope everything is going well and we are all thinking of you!
Hope to hear from you soon.
