Week 27: 1st Round of Golf, Another delay, and small (knee) setback

Posted at 8:00 PM under Uncategorized

Greetings

Took a couple of 2 miles runs and played a round of golf last Saturday (For the first time since last year!), but on Wednesday after a short run and a small calf workout, my knee started to hurt. Its slightly swollen after use and feels like a deep bruise, although I can see anything with my own eyes. The pain is localized right below the inside (left) side of my kneecap and top of my shin. The pain goes away when iced, but comes right back walking around. The motion isn’t affected, its just uncomfortable. I’ve been icing and elevating it the last 4 days. So hopefully, this will correct itself in the next week, so I can resume my full workouts. Right now I’m sticking to light walking, some calf exercises, stretching and Therabands. This is the third time something has set me back a week, so those out there keep it incremental. I should have done that a little better, but the first 3-4 runs felt great.  I guess I ran to much too soon and my knee, which has never given me a problem,  is either bruised or inflamed. If I’m lucky it will heal up over the next few days. :)

Stuff happens, it’s not all your fault. Maybe you weren’t incremental enough in loading up that knee — it is true that the whole leg has been mostly snoozing for a while — but maybe it’s something that would have happened at the same time without the ATR. The treatment is probably the same either way, i.e., give it a rest.

I remember a similar pain around a similar time. I backed off and it went away. Didn’t have to consult anyone but you could if you are still in PT. All good now after 2 years.

I know your right Norm, its just frustrating because things were starting to pickup. Hopefully, this will be a thing of the past in another 5-7days.

Stuart: Thanks, because it makes me feel more comfortable to hear that someone else experienced the same thing.

At least it is not the Achilles that hurts. I’m looking forward to the day when I exercise and end worrying about some part of my body other than Achilles/foot.

I agree Darryn. But it would be nice to stop worrying/complaining about the same leg! I still have a long way to go before Im 100 percent and I don’t want to hit too many snags that will slow
    Down my process.

Update: ITs been a week and the pain is starting to subside. Yay! Think a modified couch to 5k program might be better until I build up some more strength, since I’m having issues keeping it incremental.

On a more happy note, I talked to a woman at church tonight who also had a rupture and surgery 9 weeks ago. She told me she went 2-shoes at 6-7 weeks. I told her about this site and the good people located within and she seemed excited to check it out.

    Happy healing Achillesbloggers
