7 Weeks Since 2nd Surgery

Posted on September 17th, 2008 in Uncategorized

I am just over 7 weeks since the surgery on my achilles (the second surgery).  I am back in the air boot and am going to start physical therepy on Monday.  I am scared sh**less to take the boot off!  The last time, I couldn’t wait to get home, take the boot off and take a shower!  This time, I don’t even want to take it off to put a sock on!  I might even sleep with the thing on for a bit, just in case I decide after 31 years to start sleep walking…and screw something up!

Regardless, it’s nice to be back to where I was back in July.  I think I understand the nature of this injury a little better this time, so I’m in no hurry to start walking in 2 shoes anytime soon.  The boot is 10 times better than a cast, and I can deal with that.

“Maybe” I’ll get outside, take the boot off and get some sun on this wrinkled up little white lollypop I have for a leg.  If that goes well, maybe I’ll even take a shower!

  1. Experience is what you get when you don’t get what you want :)

Did the surgeon cut along a different part of the leg, that is, two scar lines now?

I slept with my boot for a couple of weeks as uncomfortable as it was. If you sleep without the boot or a brace your tendon will contract at night.

  2. My doc actually was able to cut along the same line…luckily no wound issues either time.
I’m not looking forward to it, but I think I’ll be sleeping with the boot on for as long as I can stand it. I’m not sure how much the tendon will contract in my case, because my doc didn’t put my foot down at much of an angle this time around. So I’ve been at nearly 90 degrees from the get go.
