Happy AT Anniversary to me!
I felt compelled to post as today marks the one year date from the tear. What a year this was — the AT repair was a life event, that is for sure. I am pleased to report that I feel great, heel can handle all my sporting activities, and I am very much looking forward to summer ( since last summer was a blur….) I still am aware that I am recovering from a repair, but it does not get in the way. Life is normal, and normal is good.
It is harder and harder to check out the blog site - so many new names and stories, I cannot keep them all straight! But I am still very grateful for all that I learned and support I got from this site. Walshie, Eriedutchgirl, Damacar - and you others who were around my time - how are you guys doing? Where are your one year posts?
Would love a progress report.
To the newbies — go carefully. Slow and steady wins this race.
Another marathon winner, congratulations, you seem to be doing really well. I’m just over the 1 year mark and doing OK - not brilliant but OK. My garden is beginning to look like it should do, like you say last summer was a blur! Have just come back from a Cruise, walking for 4 or 5 hours a day in each Port we visited. Took its toll at the end of the day with very swollen ankles but a little rest and elevation and I was ready for the off again.
Enjoy your summer
Annie
Comment by annieh 04.26.09 @ 3:03 pmHappy one healthy year to you! You do better than the rest of us by posting on the site.
This site has been a great source of support and as you said, resources as we all recover.
Comment by kristinatl 04.26.09 @ 4:28 pmTomorrow will be 8 months Post OP for me. I’m able to jog a bit now. But as you said, have to keep in mind we are recovering from a AT Rupture. Cast for 4 weeks, walking cast 2 weeks, boot two weeks and back in shoes. Coming along well.
Comment by Glen 04.26.09 @ 8:31 pmKaren - Thanks for reporting back. Happy anniversary! I am glad to hear that your heel is back to normal. I think it gives others who are starting out in the recovery some assurance that they can go back to normal activities in due time.
Weather’s been great and have fun playing tennis!
Comment by dennis 04.27.09 @ 12:00 pmCongrats! I am just a few weeks away myself from crossing the line in Central Park. think I might head to Tavern on the Green to celebrate. I am playing softball, leading a normal life, and more worried about other nagging injuries - thats how I KNOW I am better!
A life event indeed, but what a ride… Glad to have it in the rear view mirror. Glad to say that things really do get better - just takes time and hard work.
Again, Congrats!

Comment by edforman 05.03.09 @ 6:36 pmHi TJ!!
Sounds like your doing great and that makes me happy.
I’m back to normal pretty much, the AT will never feel the same again though, its just different.
I have been reading some of the new posts and how long a road its been…there hasnt been a day that the AT hasnt reminded me of that day..a “life event” as you called it…and that moniker suits this injury quite well.
I wish you the best.
Comment by walshie 05.12.09 @ 9:02 pmCongrats !!! Interesting comments and like you all said, what a great place to visit for questions and hope… I tore my AT on May 4th of this year.. fun!!! thru the cast stage and on to the boot stage… I’m hoping to report as I go thru each stage and able to walk and get to living again… Again nice to hear all of your words of encouragement on this site…
