Oh Happy Day!

Ok, so eight weeks ago today I was sitting on the tennis court, looking at my foot, knowing that this was not going to be good.

Fast forward 8 weeks. (Wish I could have fast fowarded all this….) I went to the pool, early to avoid the crowds. I went to the side of the pool, took off my boot, handed it to my husband, and butt crawled down the concrete steps into the water. As I was getting started, the pool director came up and offered me a pull buoy which could help keep my foot still in the water. So off I went, and swam for a HALF HOUR! Suddenly I completely ran out of gas. I had also planned to walk a few laps, but decided to call it a day. Why tempt fate?

I butt crawled back up the steps to poolside, toweled off the leg, put the boot back on, and went back to the grassy area and shade.

I really want to thank you all for sharing your stories. Because of your shared experiences, I was empowered today - but at the same time, very careful, very slow, and very deliberate.

Things are starting to feel more normal — even with a boot and a limp.

Weekends … love ‘em or hate ‘em

I have never been so inactive! It takes some getting used to, that is for sure. It was close to 100 degrees in the Phila area this weekend, so maybe I did not miss too much. A normal summer weekend for me includes tennis, followed by golf, then if possible, a dip in the pool. However, today I watched the French Open, read the end of my book, watched ladies golf, and joined Facebook. Pretty exciting stuff, yes?? My husband has agreed to go to see a movie tonite. I would prefer Sex and the City, but our compromise film will be Iron Man. He has been a great soldier through this, being very helpful and supportive. I am one lucky gal so SATC will just have to wait til on demand.

But, all weekend, I could not help but think, my how life has changed! I feel pretty good overall, although occasionally the foot aches from overuse, and this cast is really hard to walk on. I think the leg gets banged up by the cast. As far as walking goes, I am faster on crutches, but I have put them away and I have this funny cast drag/walk thing going on.

Now, I am eagerly awaiting a boot on Thursday. I will be bummin’ if the good doc doesn’t put me in one. I am thinking I can put and slosh around the pool next weekend if I get the boot.

Hope all the blog buddies had a good weekend — and may all our future weekends be a bit better than the last!
