Since I got the boot on Monday I have been having a PT session every day. It does sound uberfast compared to other protocols, I know. I guess I am in this fast track because my therapist is committed to get me on my foot to the most possible extent by the time we hit the road next Monday. The routine of my sessions hasn’t changed, loads of stimulation kind of stuff and a bit of massage. It all has made a tremendous improvement on my foot - the swelling and the bruise is considerably gone, my incision looks fine. It almost looks like a foot :-) I do however miss out on the motion part. I can flex my foot a bit both up and down but there is quite a way to go there. I do some exercises to stimulate this but my therapist is not very strong in this area. I think I need to find a new place when I come back in July which has a solid program for rehab exercises, and a good facility with all the equipments and tools. My current place doesn’t even have a gym. I am wearing the boot and still on two crutches which I am so ready to ditch. Strangely, the therapist would say to go to the shoe first with the crutches and then change to one and then zero crutch. I’d however feel more comfortable to learn to walk in the boot sans crutches and then opt for the shoe. We’ll see what next week brings. I am weak, though. I went to the mall this afternon with my daughter. And the mall here is minuscule compared to those in the States. Still, I got so tired just walking back and forth a bit. I am happy that I booked those wheelchairs for the airports. No way I could change terminals at Heathrow without it.
So all in all, I think I have been progressing fine. But then, in the middle of last week I started to feel weird. Palpitation, sweating, sleepless nights… Just when I had my hyperthyroidism. I went to have a blood test - and oh yes, I was back to the same old bad results… I had been taking medication for almost two years and just finished last February as my results were so good. And now bang! - just back to where I started. ..Honestly, I felt so frustrated and sad. I thought I just had eough with the leg. And now this, on top of everything. The real irony is that most probably the excessive amount of iodine that was used during the surgery triggered the gland to overfunction. So now I am back to the medication. It is just an added discomfort - it makes me a bit nauseous and dizzy until the drug kicks in. Plus of course I feel more tired due to the fast heartbeat and stuff. I have to tell you, I was so sad when I found it out. I was helplessly crying and thought it was so unfair. I was contemplating canceling the trip. Again. But then in th middle of the misery suddenly I just realized that the only way out from the bottom of the pit is to go on the trip and make as much out of it as we can. So unless some other hidden development unfolds, we are on that plane in a week or so!
I was thinking that in the States I would most probably sue the clinic for not taking care of the thyroid issue. I referred to it to the aneshesologist when he did the initial assessment but they never said that there could be a side affect or anything. I am not sure if there is any other type of disinfector that they could have used. But at least I could have take some preemptive measures, I supposse. But things work differently here. Or don’t work. The court normally has a two-three year backlog on cases. Plus being a foreigner working for a company that everyone hates would most probably not help my case. Maybe a challenging case for Eerie, though?
Hope everyone is doing fine and enjoying a happy fathers day!
