At day 22 I went back to work.  Just meant to drop by around 9 am.  Oh yes, I left after 5.  Truth revisited: there is no just dropping by at the office… It well went though.  My dear assistant arranged for my transportation  back and forth, got me a nice plush stool to rest my leg on and ordered me lunch.  She is a gem.  It felt kind of weird to wear a pair of shorts to work - I couldn’t fit into anything more appropriate with the cast on.  Also figured, a skirt might not be very handy with the elevation.  Anyways.  It felt nice to be back among people and do something.  For a while I even forget about my condition.  The leg felt fine - or I just wasn’t very conscious of it.  It did feel though very tired by the evening.  Must have been a bit swollen as the cast felt too small.  This has been my routine over the past three days and seems to work.  I even dropped by (well, was taken, to be honest) at my doc’s as I wanted to consult him on changing my cast for the walker boot.  In his original protocol, there was no boot but casts only: 2 week full + 4 weeks walking.  Later to agreed to cut this back to 3 weeks so I could have a week of therapy before flying out for our vacation.  I just felt that I would feel more comfortable with the walker as a transition between cast and nothing.  He agreed to change my cast for the boot next Monday - 4 weeks post op.  I am happy about it.  It will be great to air my leg after 4 weeks, scrub off the dead skin, get rid of the hair (fur, I would say) and start therapy.  Well, the doc wasn’t that sure about starting PT right away, he would recommend waiting one more week and start it at week 5. The PT specialist is more anxious though.  I might take her approach. I would think that all that stimulation (electro, magnet, ultrasound, etc) cannot hurt.  I don’t want to rush things at all - I just feel that I am ready for a more active phase.  I might need to reconsider that as the cast comes off and my dead fish (copyright eerie?) turns up, though…Although I have some occasional pain around my ankle or a kind of itching around my incision , generally I am fine. I do some PWB, a mild one though.  But I think I have won the mental battle and makes me feel well.

Welcome to all the new bloggers, sorry about your accidents but good that you have found us.  To my old blog buddies:  keep up!

I agree with you on the shorts to work point. Had a customer meeting today where everybody in the room was in shirt and tie, while I’m in shorts and a polo shirt. Oh well, at least it makes for good side conversation…

Hey Judit,

Being around other people was a huge boost for me. The cabin fever was really starting to eat away at my overall attitude.

I think everyone’s PT schedule is going to be a little different. For example, in my case, while I’ve started PT, it’s not very aggressive because of the additional surgical procedure on my calf muscle to get the foot in the right position when the AT was re-attached. So, while I may have started PT on-time, it’s probably going to last longer than the “normal” protocol.

Anyways, congrats on overcoming the mental hurdles.
