Achilles Tendon Insertion Tear

My Achilles Tendon is tearing away from my Heel.  The surgeon said that the tendon is very tight so they have to release the tendon, remove the tendon from my heel, remove the imflamed and scar tissue and then attach the tendon with anchor screws.  I was told that I would be non weight bearing for at least 3 months.

  2. This is similar to what I had done. I also had a heel spur that was removed as well as having the heel bone shaved down. I will also be non weight bearing for a least eight weeks.
I had surgery 10 days ago and have to keep my leg elevated until I see the doctor next Wednesday. I think this will be the worst part–once I can move off the couch, I think it won’t be as bad.
Good luck to you–when is your surgery?

  3. Debra, I had the same thing. I was non weight bearing for 8 weeks (5 weeks in a cast and 3 weeks in the boot), and then was told to get rid of the crutches and go to two shoes as soon as I could. It’s been 5 months since the surgery, and while I don’t have full strength back yet, it’s great to be able to get up and walk without pain!

  4. Jan,
I’m so happy to hear that you are now walking with no pain. My greatest fear is that I will go through all this and still have pain. Thanks for sharing–it helps to hear from someone who is ahead of you in the healing process.

  5. Debra my surgery is tomorrow. I am more worried about the pain after the surgery. I have heard from many including the doctor that it is a very painful recovery. How are you doing?
