thanks so much for responding. I’m on my third week removed from surgery and in my third cast with my foot in the neutral position. I will be in the CAM walking boot once I’m out of this cast. I know patience is going to be key for me to a full recovery.
Ya, those reflex “saves” are hard to fight, and sometimes do cause reruptures. We’re hard-wired not to fall, and fight hard with any handy muscles — including your calf and vulnerable AT — to fight it. Work on prevention.
I had a heart valve replaced about 3 years ago, and sneezing was the big post-op hard-wired scare after that op. Coughing was bad enough, but having a normal old-fashioned painless sneeze was one of the biggest breakthroughs!
You’re probably right. It didn’t pop. I’m assuming if I reruptured I would’ve known right away. I do have ice crutch tips on my crutches. The crutch got caught on something. If I hadn’t of planted I would’ve surely face planted on the pavement. it was a reflex I suppose.
Don’t Do That! OTOH, most of us did, and most did not rerupture, though some did. I’m betting you didn’t. Watch out for wet or snowy crutch-tips, too. As you heal and gain confidence, your risk probably increases!
Hi first blogger,I too had my first achilles surgery on the 13th after injuring playing wallyball on the 9th. The first week is he’ll but every day gets some better. I cannot wait to walk again. I’ve had a couple scares on ice and snow but if you can rent a scooter until you are FWB you will be amazed how much it helps. I have my two week appt on Thursday so I am excited what my surgeon has to say. Keep the faith!
Most desk jobs and meeting places and restaurants. . . can be redesigned to include an extra chair with a cushion on it for elevating an injured foot. Ask and you shall (usually) receive.

Welcome, and I am glad you got through the first 5 days without a lot of pain. The good news is that once you get used to the PWB with crutches, it does get better every single week.
Many people have gone back to work after a few short weeks on crutches, so you should be OK.
