Surgery Today

Well this is my first post.  I ruptured my achilles tendon on Sunday 11/15/2009 and I had surgery to repair it this morning.  I feel great so far, but my right leg is still numb so I’ll find out more when I get my feeling back.   I am a very active person and I know I will have some frustations being laid up for so long.  It sounds like I have to put up with the cast and crutches for 2 weeks, then I get the boot.  I can’t wait to be running again.  Any advice or suggestions for rehab would be appreciated.  I have been through a similar process having torn my ACL about 10 years ago.

  2. Enjoy the numbness….you are where everyone of us has been, but I assure you that the time will pass and you will be a little more mobile with each passing month.

Advice I would offer is to keep your leg elevated…the less you are up and about the better.

  3. I’m a 4 time half marathoner (walking) and as impatient as they get.
    BUT, take your time.
I’m 7 weeks out and I echo pender’s suggestion. Elevate, ice and REST!
Honestly it will pay off, so far my best progress has been with rest.

  4. Thanks for the replies. I know as much as I want to get up and get going I need to rest and give my body an opportunity to heal.
