Could be worse
It has been four weeks since my injury, although I’m only 3 weeks post-op. I am going a little stir crazy and longing to put my foot on the ground and shower like a normal person. The cast sleeve I use is fine, but I still have to keep the leg draped over one side.
But when I start to feel down or bummed out, I just remind myself this is all temporary. I remind myself of the next milestone in my treatment and go from there. Right now that milestone is Wednesday March 10th. Off with the cast and into the boot and PWB.
By the way, I just can’t believe how tired I am after work. I have never been one to go to bed early, but by 9:30pm, I’m ready for bed! Healing takes a lot of energy!
It sure takes a long time to healing, but it is temporary. I use to put short time goals, milestone to milestone, so I get the illusion (?) that times passes by quickly.
I felt that way too. I used to be very active with basketball and gym and everything, and now I’m on 2 shoes and can’t do much, I have excess energy. Maybe it helped that I have gained around 5kgs of body weight, around 60kgs now (1.70 height), feeling pretty comfortable on these, energetic and so strong! I think I’ll be the first Greek woman to dunk when I get it lol!
I agree with marina…I HAD to make little milestones for myself. If I didn’t set the small goals I would have gone completely crazy.
I spent my time playing Wii from the couch on my butt….watching movies and cable TV until I couldn’t handle it anymore.
The time for us seems to drag on and on because we’re down and not able to move about freely, while others don’t really look at it that way because their lives carry on as normal.
Don’t get all worked up. This will time will pass, and before you know it you’ll be up moving around.
I’m a very active type of person but I know that I have to be very careful or I’ll push it to fast and screw myself up again. Every day since surgery I have to tell myself out loud…”Slow and Steady Wins THIS Race”.
You’re going to be just fine…just take it slow and do everything your Doctor and PT say to do.
Good Luck and keep us posted.
