Two week post up

Posted on June 24th, 2008 in Uncategorized by jennt1527

Had my two week post op appointment yesterday.  The surgeon said everything looks great.  Luckily he stitched me up with dissolveable stiches so I didn’t have to go through the pain that most of you had to with staples being removed.  The doctor didn’t say much only that I need a cast for four weeks and may need another, but was told to bring the boot to my next appointment just in case he puts me into that.  I have never broken a bone, so this is the first time I have ever had a cast.  It’s kind of annoying, but it’s a nice shade of purple :)  I have to get used to it, but I feel much more secure with the cast.  I was in a splint for the two weeks after surgery.  I was cleared to go back to work on Monday.  I am kind of excited because sitting at home is awfully boring.  I am not excited about trying to get through a huge building.  Luckily I am good at the crutches, but it is still a long walk, even from handicapped parking.  Anyway, just wanted to give an update.

What does the doc mean, “bring the boot”….i thought the boot was provided by the docs office…..Congrats on your 2 week progress and lucky you– no staples–ouch, the pain. Good luck next week at work….just take it slowwww.

Word of advice on getting through a laarge building - rent or borrow a wheelchair and have someone meet you and wheel you to your desk. Makes a HUGE difference…

    Hi Marianne,

The doc gave me a boot during my first visit because I had to go and get an MRI and then come back to see him. He put me in the boot instead of casting/splinting me.

    Thanks Ed,

I was thinking of bringing a wheelchair. I will see how Monday goes and if I am having a hard time, I will definately bring it on Tuesday :)

Its not the way IN to work, Its on the way out at the end of a long day, leg throbbing and swollen that’s the rough part. Its amazing how worn out you get. My first week back to work I started dozing off in a meeting! Everyone just laughed at me and contributed it to pain meds. (I was off the pain meds but I went along with it.) I was more tired from doing nothing than I was when I was being active!
Hang in there with the cast, as annoying as it is…..its lighter than the boot!

Know the feeling - the afternoon is SOOOOO hard. I finally gave up and am working from home today and Friday. I need to rest this thing more and being in the boot all day aint helping. After sleeping with it elevated last night and basically not getting out of bed all morning, it feels the best it has felt - I can even get more ROM work done and the swelling is definitely down. I guess I just have to dial it down and take it easy.

Actually, the boot and casts improved my upper body strength. Doing pull-ups and dips with that heavy thing on improved my reps. Know with two shoes, I’m repping more than I was before. Anyway, use the boot and cast to your benefit.
