2nd rupture at 8.5 weeks

At 8 weeks, getting used to a boot after 7 weeks of fiberglass casts, my boot caught on a cabinet door in the kitchen and I fell. MRI confirmed a new rupture and gap above the repair of my original rupture. Docs recommend surgery as best chance for a full recovery. Here we go again.

  1. Eight weeks and then back to the starting line is devastating. Do you have a hinged boot or fixed? Two re-ruptures while still protected by boots is very scary. Good luck with your second surgery. At least you know what to expect this time around.

Sorry to hear about you falling down as well. I got a Telll you I’m not mentally or physically ready for another surgery.

  3. Good luck

  4. I feel for you, I have been through this a second time as well and wish you all the best. If its of any help I have found the second time not nearly as tough as the first.

  5. Jennish, I posted a suggestion on dondon’s page. Use it if you want. (I would, but it’s your leg, and it should be your decision.)

BTW, one of my many reasons to like the newer faster protocols even for post-op patients (where going slow doesn’t seem to lead to worse clinical outcomes) is that they get you away from crutches and scooters and casts and boots as soon as possible. That’s still no guarantee that you won’t slip and fall FWB or in 2 shoes, but most of us do seem to be more liable to fall in those early stages, when our walking is most unnatural. (I sure was.)

  6. Thanks, Herewegoagain, I’m glad the second time wasn’t as tough for you. The good thing is that I know what to expect. But that’s also the bad thing, come to think of it.

  7. It seems as though the repaired part of the tendon is now stronger than the rest for you to rupture in a different position. I hope they can have a good look to see the condition of the tendon in general. It may also mean a tendon transfer to replace degenerated tissue. Hope it goes well for you.

  8. So sorry to hear that this happened to you - it was something I feared in the early stages. I was always fearful that I would rupture my other leg and couldn’t fathom not being able to use either leg. I hope that everything turns out ok and that you will not have any other setbacks. Good luck.
