6 weeks post surgery
well, partial weight bearing, with an odd slipper gadget on a fiberglass cast. Will be given cam boot on 11/5. Sore, incision is rough, calf feels like a deep bruise. Walking on the cast is no fun for lower back. Feel a lot like Frankenstein’s monster. You know, “Walk this way….” So fed up. Thanks for responding to previous posts. Rupture was probably due to antibiotics (spelled cipro), and doc is using abundance of caution, as I have had serious tendonitis in my “good” leg. Scared to death that my “good” leg will have a rupture too, although that would be too evil to contemplate.
I am sure the boot will help, casts can be tough to walk in that’s for sure. Has your doctor given you any idea on how long you need to watch your good leg for? I think feeling fed up by 6 weeks is a common thread here. Hang in there!
Lots of info on the Cipro risk to tendons on this site. IIRC, the risk is relatively short-term, SL your uninjured AT may be safe already.
Cast or boot, build up your other foot/shoe to the same height, and make sure your knee bends as you roll over the sole of the cast or boot. Keep your toes forward, not out, and don’t lock your knee (or hyperextend it) like a peg-leg.
I too had my ATR within three weeks of taking antibiotics!
From the reading I did, it looks like the ruptures were most common in the first month after taking these things, so if you have stopped taking the Cipro over a month ago hopefully you will be clear of the highest risk bracket. I don’t believe my antibiotics were the sole reason for my ATR but I do firmly believe they contributed greatly. The good news is my other leg survived without incident so I hope yours will to. Take care
